How much for both pieces?

Possible change of plans
I'm pretty set on the external gate. BEGi has the downpipe n stuff, so that's a no brainer. But I am able to get either a T28 manifold OR a T3 manifold.

Is there a kick ass T3 that will suit my needs? Is there a kick ass, close enough to my needs T3 that's a shit ton less expensive than the 2871?

Is the TIAL 38mm F38 big enough? Or should I get the F41 41mm?

I didn't ask how much the dp is. The exhaust manifold is $100 extra

Ben, I'd love to see you do the 2871. It looks like a kickass turbo. You'll probably end up losing the spool you gained by going with the 71 over the 76 if you switch to a T3.

Tial 38 is fine. Personally I'd use a 44 just for the v-band. Makes leaks almost impossible and it makes installation easier too. Installation might not be an issue with your WG position though. Larger wastegates control low boost better.

I've got a new fire ring gasket (for a 38) lying around if you want it. $5 shipped.

FWIW, I ran the turbosmart 35mm on my Forester up to 400 whp and 23 psi and it worked fine. Might be a bit cheaper. Uses the same flanges/gaskets as the Tial.

44 wasn't an option. they'll build the manifold and downpipe for either the 38mm or the 41mm tial. i'm sure they could accomodate something else if i sent it to them, but I think the fewer the variables I throw at them, the better chance we'll have for everything to fit right.

i can get the tial 38 for about $200 from Kelly.
i don't know what a fire ring gasket is, but if i need one, i'll take it.

the 38 is plenty for either turbo. like i said, it keeps my 2876 from spiking at 4 psi.

cjernigan 10-03-2007 12:25 PM

Y8s, what spring do you run in your 38? I have a 7psi one in mine.

y8s 10-03-2007 12:55 PM

3.8

Fire ring gasket is the gasket that goes between the manifold and WG flange. The 38s have a rep of blowing out with the included flat gaskets. The fire ring gasket has a metal ring in the middle that keeps them sealed. If the stock gasket seats fine and never leaks, just use it. If you develop a leak between the flanges, lemme know.

oh it'll leak. you'll take it out for a couple hard runs and that @#$(*& TiAL gasket will be crispy and hanging on by one bolt as your exhaust leaks out the unsealed flange.

Just clean the flanges up and make sure they're flat and run no gasket. Works a treat.

I like the soft solid metal gaskets i got for my turbo i will never run that reynolds wrap shit agian.
