Well here I go again, my last attempt a turbocharging a car was a Mustang II, with a Thunderbird turbo charger. If I knew then what I know now (use an oil restrictor) I might still have it.
Things have changed. Fuel injection, BOV's and O2 clamps.
Right now I have "Red" (1990) off the road. Red is my Junk Yard Kitten. I found it in a salvage yard in Nebraska. Seems the prior owner (from Texas) had left it there instead of fixing the crankshaft.
The summer project is to install a turbocharger on it. I want a power to wieght ratio of 1hp/15lbs. Having driven a lot of different cars, this seems to be ideal for mountain roads. Anything more and it just gets too tricky.
If it were not for one car in the mountains here, I would not feel the need for the turbo.
So the project to date has a TD05 12b. Which I hope will spool up to 8 lbs boost at about 4K. I hope the boost doesn't get going to great below 3.5K as I cruise most of the time at about 3K.
Right now I am cutting up a spare exhaust manifold to try and fabricate my own header. One of the problems with using salvage parts.
But I did rebuild the turbo, boy I sure like the absence of the carbon seals on this MIT turbo.

Been studying the posts here for some time. I fully expect some hazing.
Expected problems: Too much boost, and lack of high octane gas. I hope to run a Bipes unit. So any setting that any of you have that seems to work would be helpful.
