The next turbo going on the miata...S256

Here are some shots of the turbo that is going on the miata after I'm done building the new motor. Also, I hope to be writing as in depth of a motor build as I can, but thats not for this thread.

The lens bends the picture strangely on the compressor shot. It is in fact just under 3". It also give you a great look at the extended tip fins that give this turbo an absolutely outrageous efficiency from 1-4+ bar. If you Google the compressor map you'll see what I mean.

I have ordered a stainless steel .55AR turbine housing for it. That should hopefully give me boost onset around 3k RPM. Eventually I will buy some springs, maybe back cut valves, and port the head. That will increase my rev range, make the turbo spool even better, and thus increase my power band. In the end though that doesn't matter a whole lot because how often are you below 5k on a track anyway?

You won't find many dynos of this turbo, it is still very new. It came out around fall last year, and hasn't been widely adopted. I got it in an unbelievable deal and have less than half the retail price into it, after the extra turbine housing purchase. I decided to keep it after looking at dynos of the GT3071R on Hondas with B16's in them.

Well thats that. Enjoy the pics. If you want to view the folder of all pics I have for the build so far just go to http://filebox.vt.edu/users/gouldmab/parts/

Wow.

Big. Put that stuff together....

UofACATS 06-25-2007 12:45 AM

:eek4:

Efficient from 1-4 Bar(wow).. What do you plan to run?

magnamx-5 06-25-2007 12:49 AM

that is a big housing but the wheels look about the same size as mine. is that suposed to be about the size of a gt30 or what?

neogenesis2004 06-25-2007 12:55 AM

yes its supposed to be very close to a gt3071r

magnamx-5 06-25-2007 12:58 AM

Well 2scoops ofhooah should be running a 3071 soon so hopefully it will give you an idea on spool/power if he beats you to being done all he has left is to drop the motor lets cheer him on guys.

I plotted the compressor map. According the spreadsheet calculations and plot points I should be able to have 18psi by 4000rpm. Thats close to 400whp lol. I'm not gonna run that kind of power yet though. I don't wanna blow the trans until I figure out what I wanna do about it.

I wanna see the assembled thing next to the 2560....

also wanna see the SS turbine housing....

y8s 06-25-2007 10:21 AM

yeah i saw that SS turbine hsg. rust free is nice.

but I couldnt find comp maps even on borg-warners site.

Braineack 06-25-2007 10:36 AM

the map is amazing. +80% in some points....I'll post it here in a sec.

dman i can only find the 258, which is a tad bigger wheel....even still from 3-7k at 2.2PR (18psi) the map looks good from 20-53 lb/min staying within 70% and hitting 80% in the middle.

Stainless doesn't stay "stainless" at turbine temps.

I'm jealous of the big turbo though :) Good luck and have fun!
