You should probably list modifications if any.

You're not really giving us much to go on here.

no mods straight stock

Erat 01-18-2014 07:48 PM

No codes?

bajaboy169 01-18-2014 08:21 PM

Code was for coil pacs I replaced them both

BoVice 01-18-2014 08:47 PM

Is it a stock with an aftermarket/DIY turbo kit or is it a Mazdaspeed?
1. Have you done anything other then replace the coils? Pull your plugs and inspect them, check the gap and make sure they're not the root of the problem.
2. Have you checked for any vacuum leaks or boost leaks? If it's only happening when in boost these are the things you should first explore.
3. Check your wiring harness for melted or exposed wire, also make sure the wires going into the connecters are not loose and are in decent shape.

yes it's a mazda speed factory turbo. I will check this stuff in the daylight tomorrow morning and get back with ya. Thanks for the help I hope is some thing easy to find and fix:x:

bajaboy169 01-18-2014 11:11 PM

how do you check for leaks?

Erat 01-19-2014 08:49 AM

Start the car. Use your ears and your eyes.

If you suspect something is leaking spray a little starting fluid in that area. RPM's go up, then shes sucking in air from somewhere its not supposed to.

Aricjm15 01-19-2014 11:28 AM

Did you check the plugs and wires?
It probably has a leak in the intake piping

bajaboy169 01-19-2014 01:21 PM

Looking for the leak now Thanks

BoVice 01-19-2014 02:58 PM

How many miles are on the car? Is service up to date? Pull the plugs and check them! A spark plugs condition can help diagnose the issue. This thread should be placed in engine performance, that sub forum will be more helpful in diagnosing the issue.

bajaboy169 01-19-2014 04:44 PM

Ok great news! no leaks had a young tuner move in down the street he came over and started messing with it. Turns out my map sensor is clicking he said that it might be the reason the turbo isn't kicking in. Is he right? I don't have a clue either way. Need some input before I spend any money on this Thanks.

Aricjm15 01-19-2014 04:50 PM

99% certain he has no clue what he is talking about.
Are you sure the code was for the coils and not for a multiple cylinder missfire? Replace the plugs and triple check any hose/vacuum line on the car. The mass air sensor does all the work and the Map sensor on these cars is mostly for emissions and has little to do with the way the car actually runs.
Make sure to gap the plugs around .032 or less.

Erat 01-19-2014 04:53 PM

There is a way of diagnosing this problem without spending any money.

This includes not listening to the little kid down the street.

But don't let me tell you what to do.

bajaboy169 01-19-2014 06:04 PM

I am going to check the gaps tomorrow if they are good Aric, Dillon please tell me more.

Erat 01-19-2014 06:14 PM

Mileage on the car? Have you done any tune up stuff? Did this all of a sudden one day happen, or has it been getting worse.

I don't know much about 04's and MSM's but with it being completely stock i feel it's something that needs regular replacement / fixing. Something simple.

bajaboy169 01-19-2014 06:40 PM

Mileage is 106000 had a tune up about 7 months ago the symptoms started about 1 month ago, it starting getting worse and worse to where it is now.

Erat 01-19-2014 06:43 PM

Fuel filter?

BoVice 01-19-2014 07:49 PM

I take I that you haven't pulled the plugs or checked any of the wires like myself and others have recommended. Young and tuner are A very scary combo, I'm only 25 and I'm still considered young by my mentor and peers who have built some insane street and track cars. Don't forget the simple things when diagnosing an issue. Ecu's can throw codes that may not be the issue! Keep in mind that the spark plug will show if you're running lean or rich, a plug will tell you more then you think it can. If you're on a forum and you don't want to check the basics then I highly recommend you take it to a competent shop.

bajaboy169 01-19-2014 09:03 PM

Checked the wires they are good can't pull the plugs till I get to work tomorrow plug socket at work.

miata25psi 01-20-2014 01:43 AM

Check everything related to ignition first. If it threw a coil code it's could be wiring, intermittent ecu issues, or other randomness.

bajaboy169 01-20-2014 10:51 AM

plugs look great clean and tight at .032 reset the light cleaned the air filter. fired it up test drove. A little different now if I am easy on the throttle it responds good till around 4000 rpm. If I gun it half pedal it is missing and the engine light comes back on. #3 miss fire I pulled the plug again cleaned it unscrewed to cap on the plug 1/2 turn to insure good contact. reset the light test drove again same as described above.

Erat 01-20-2014 10:57 AM

I think you found your problem. It seems to just have a misfire on #3.

pdexta 01-20-2014 11:39 AM

I'd bet that spending $8 on a new set of NGK BKR7E (part #4644) spark plugs would fix the problem.

sixshooter 01-20-2014 09:30 PM

Fouled

bajaboy169 01-27-2014 10:23 AM

Sorry had to go out of state for a while. Pulled the plugs they look great perfect gap good spark. Checked for leaks no leaks . next?

sixshooter 01-27-2014 10:50 AM

Plugs can look fine and be fouled. Buy plugs.

bajaboy169 01-29-2014 03:28 AM

Ok I have $10 I will get them when the snow melts in a day or two.

bajaboy169 02-03-2014 10:44 AM

Sorry had to go to Texas, just got back. Alright different symptoms now when cold it runs great for 10 seconds then if I feather the throttle lightly it performs as it should including the turbo. If I gun it, it bogs down. Any suggestions on what it could be? I checked the wires and plugs Thanks

sixshooter 02-03-2014 11:54 AM

Fuel pump. Or metering problem.

bajaboy169 02-06-2014 09:43 PM

No it doesn't lage at high rpm if I am light on the throttle

sharkythesharkdogg 02-07-2014 08:00 AM

He's suggesting you may be getting enough fuel at idle, and with gentle throttle input, but when you give it more throttle input the stumble comes from there not being enough fuel getting introduced into the mixture.

Check fuel pressure when you're doing these throttle input experiments.

sixshooter 02-07-2014 02:19 PM

And still change the fucking spark plugs even if you think they look fine.
