Noob to Miata Boost

hey guys im lookin to boost my new 1990 miata my curretn motor has got 159k but im not boostin that, i'm in the process of getting one with like 40k miles on it and a matching tranny, now i wa going to work on my motor whiel it was outa the car to make life easy, now i'm lookin to run like 215hp safely without having to worry about shit exploding on me, so anything i should do?

I was think about building it so that i could run like 250hp so 215 wouldn't be a problem.

whatcha got for me?

UofACATS 01-31-2007 11:04 PM

We got it all my friend.

If you're looking to run 215 horsepower safely you should leave the engine stock and think about tuning.

The "shit exploding" would be the stock rear end. Swap that instead.

....since we're cutting-n-pasting

if the compression and leakdown on the current engine turn out good, I wouldn't bother with a built engine for only 215rwhp.

haha I thought i was having some crazy deja vu

Hey, while you're pulling your 1.6 and trans (and buying a new engine) swap a 1.8

:dunno:

yea, get a 1.8 and swap that in, not much more money, if any, and a much better engine.. And also read up on the MegaSquirt ECU that is discussed heavily here... If you want over 200HP an ECU replacement is a good idea.. We have a group buy being set up right now as well.. so you might be able to save some money.

Check out the Megasquirt forum

1.6>than 1.8 anyway. 300 whp or less is livable with good tunning etc. the more research you do the easier it will be GL man lemme know if i can help.

You can get similar hp out of a stock 1.6 and 1.8. The bigger motor does deliver better torque though, and would give more hp if it had some cams. The 1.6 cams are aggressive in comparison to the 1.8 cams.

The extra torque from the 1.8 will help you break more drivetrain components.

well i'm coming from having a BPT in a 94 protege DX....i sold the car with the stock motor and i'm selling my BPT somtime in the coming week.....i like the 1.8 but looking for something a lil different (obviously not to much) liked how it ran and i had an Greddy Emangae hooked up and still have it....and i have the connector for the NA6c 1.6 so i would most likely use that..a friend of mine has a nice miata with the FM turbo kit....but i can't afford it so i was looking to go maybe with the greddy kit? possibly some cams....and of course exhaust
