noob to turbo.
 

hey everyone. i decided instead of making to different threads about one saying hi im new and the other asking my ? i'd just make one lol. anyways, im vince, you can call me sid. im new the the whole miata world but so far im loving it. and as for my ? id realy like to turbo my car and iv tried searching on here for like a right up on everything i need to get started but couldnt find one. if possible id like to stay under or close to $1,000 and stick away from ebay. i know im prob gunna have to spend more then a grand but thats my target. im not trying to run massive psi as this is my DD and iv heard running over 6 you can mess up your clutch and diff? anyways sorry for the lost post but ya im just asking what do i NEED to get started. and sorry for the spelling errors lol.

Ok, im going to be very nice. This is not a forum to ask questions like this. At the top of this forum (diy turbo section) is a full writeup with everything you need to know. you will need a few grand and ill guess by such a basic question it might cost more becasue you will most likely have to pay others for some help.

On this forum you will get RAPED horribly for asking any question that is not answered in the everything you need to know sticky thread at the top of diy turbo. read it 5 times through, then come back and ask any questions in a week or two. Oh and by the way, just by being so nice to you here ill get bagged out something horrible so be warned, this forum will not tolerate stupid questions.

people here have written up everything you need to know for a basic setup, almost every regular user of this forum is very knowledgable (people who arent dont last here) so anything you ask that has been said before, like your whole first post will get raped and any intelligent or new questions you ask will receive very friendly and very informed advice.

Your 1k budget amuses me.

Actually if you look there's a lot of good deals out there. Once engine management is done...you can probably do your hotside, intercooler, exhaust and intake for a little over $1000. The little crap like lines and fittings add up though.

You NEED engine management though...priority number one. You shouldn't do anything to increase power until you can control ignition and fueling.

There you go. Don't be a champ and get a mbc and blow your engine. 5-6 psi is all I would do before I got good engine management. Although, I was a good noob, and read and researched for 2 years before I actually turbo'd my car. So what I am going to tell you is get a megasquirt built and rule the world. Plus, You can pick up about 10 hp on an otherwise factory vehicle with a megasquirt, and it is fun to tinker with.

do you have a 1.6 or 1.8? If you have a 1.8 I can help you hit that 1000$ budget.

hey sorry i was super busy past few weeks. witty yes i have have a 1.8. and gospeed81 im thinking about MSD boost timing unit by Jackson Racing, what are your thoughts on that one? and i was thinking about mishimoto I/C and prob just cheap ebay pipe's for now and walboro pump. but everything els i have no clue.

i did read that section. i read it like three times but that did not answer every one of my ? for instance it said something about a 1.6 needing to upgrade ti 1.8 injectors if more then i 6 or 7 psi (i forget how much) but i got a 1.8 and i only want 4-6 psi so are my stock injectors ok?

Dude.......Section 3 read it all do some math and answer your own question. They are being so nice to you right now but soon they will run out of patience.

Your injectors will be fine if you can get them to push enough fuel and not have your car go too lean. If you want to be safe get a good wideband and some decent fuel management.
