Apparently he bought the car Thursday. Wrecked it Saturday morning at Buttonwillow. Dad and I were a corner behind him; the Rx7 who was right behind him said he came over Lost Hill, got sideways, dropped a wheel, and as soon as he dropped the wheel it hooked hard. Landed on all four corners, at least 4 flips. Driver walked away, thank god.

Where've I seen that car before? I *think* I recognize the plate.

Savington 07-09-2007 02:25 AM

The plate isn't from that car. It's from his other car, which he put into a tire wall the previous week at Streets of Willow IIRC. The reason he bought this car was because his other Miata wasn't going to be ready for this event.

Snowsurfer03 07-09-2007 02:50 AM

That whore pic is tha tits!!!!

Crazt that he survived! I seriousy can not believe that he walked away from that.....CRAZY!

r comps and no rollbar? dur?

nice that he walked away. i'll make sure to fwd this to my gf.

mschlang 07-09-2007 01:31 PM

Who allows convertibles on track w/o a bar? I thought pretty much everyone running events had adopted that rule by now.

cueball1 07-09-2007 02:14 PM

That's one lucky dumb guy. After wrecking 2 cars in 2 weeks I hope he's banned from the track. There's no way he should have been on the track without a roll bar. I can't believe there are clubs that would allow that. I get harassed because my autopower sport isn't tall enough. Have to keep my hardtop on. I hope that scared some sense into him. Walking away from it he might not have learned his lesson though.

On your car. It looks like your turn signals are removed completely. Do you take them out for the track or do you have signals hidden somewhere?

Savington 07-09-2007 03:20 PM

The rollbar is covered up by the softtop, which popped up while he was cartwheeling in the air. It's just a single hoop, but he would have been dead without it. It's hard to see, but it's there.

cueball1 07-09-2007 04:07 PM

Damn good thing he had it. Can't see with the softop mangled over it. Good to see that even single hoops like the hard bar can still save your butt. He should send pics to the manufacturer. See if he can wheedle a replacement out of them for the endorsement.

Arkmage 07-09-2007 04:30 PM

so which person loitering in the pics is the idiot?

jonnybravo 07-09-2007 06:27 PM

dude with no shirt....fool.

Arkmage 07-09-2007 06:33 PM

ugly bastard.

cueball1 07-09-2007 06:45 PM

I can't tell if he's one of the stocky build japanese or if he's mexican. I've got about that much extra padding too but I leave my shirt on in public. Not something to be proud of.

mazda/nissan 07-09-2007 09:36 PM

that mx5 is really slow now, "i said a 10 second car, i can't even drag that over the finish line"

iWeasel410 07-09-2007 10:51 PM

I wonder if he'll sell me the ignition switch on the back of ignition tumbler, or his rims, or his floor mats :)

samnavy 07-10-2007 12:02 AM

Lack of skill had nothing to do with driving that car off the track... it's simply that God hates red Miatas.

Slidin'Miata916 07-10-2007 12:06 AM

Looks like Rhyes Millens Gto in the back ground haha

No, but the debate on his skill level will still rage on. The only reason he bought that car was because he put his usual track Miata into a wall at Streets of Willow last weekend and bent a control arm which didn't arrive on time to make this event. He bought this car Thursday, installed the rollbar Friday night, and rolled it Saturday morning about 11am.

What I/C is that, where does one acquire said device, and lastly how much? HEH

speedf50 07-14-2007 01:47 AM

Savington, want to trade cars?? Your is stunning! I just had to say that, it really looks spectacular.

And that was one lucky guy, so if there was a small bar, why did it get completely smashed? Was it a 2 point or something? I thought that almost all events make sure that you are running a good bar, I mean even though that one saved him, a better bar would have been the difference from him being amazingly lucky and him just having a bad day.

eBay intercooler, 27x8x2.5 IIRC. It's either a 27" or 28" core. I paid $80 used, you can get them for $100-120 all day long.

Or he makes you constantly swap in new motor :gay: whoops hope scot doesn't read that  j/k

cueball1 07-14-2007 04:38 PM

Savington,

Your TSI's. Looks like they are completely open. Do you have bulbs hidden inside the opening? Do you just pull out the signals for track days? Curious what you've done.

Strider 07-17-2007 12:00 AM

hmm very nice, I was thinking that 27 would be way to big. Are you having any cooling issues with such a large IC blocking the radiator?

Savington 07-17-2007 12:06 AM

Yeah, I am. I've got the stock belly pan, but no other ducting as of yet. The car will overheat a tiny bit if I do more than about 3 hard laps in 100+ degree heat on a racetrack. I suppose you could call that a cooling issue. I'm going to put a couple of ducts in so it will draw some air over the top of the intercooler. I haven't decided where to put the oil cooler yet.

The TSIs are totally open, no bulbs hidden. I have the parking lights rewired as blinkers.
