Default NA 1.6: glowing manifold and turbo

Ever since getting my new motor in and driving around my mani and turbo glow lava red BUT ONLY after freeway driving.
Its a 1.6 with mspnp

From what i've read after searching for the syptoms it doesnt make sense

My timing is spot on, i checked it 3 times to make sure by pulling the #1 spark plug out and using a ratchet extension piece and watching when it becomes TDC so the timing marks line up and its spot on like i said.

All sensors are plugged in and reading.

My freeway cruising AFR's are good

And im pretty sure my ignition timing is set properly ( with Marc D's help)
Its weird though when we set the timing the timing mark went all the way to the left so its at like 18* 20*??wtf?

Right now i have the wastegate disconnected for the engine break in. The break in is complete now and i want to get this fixed before any serious tuning happens.
And if it matters the MS was street tuned with the wastegate disconnected so i could drive around to break the motor in.

Help please im completely stumped

My understanding is glowing red is from high EGTs. What kind of temps are you getting? I know you said your AFRs are good, but still. I have only seen my mani glow red once. I don't check on a regular basis either tho.

On a side note what kind of "engine break in" are you doing?

Make sure your timing is not still locked in Megatune from when you set your base timing. Not that I've ever done that before.

Glowing manifolds are awesome. My car does it because it makes mad powah.

Yours does it because you are not running enough timing advance.

Heh.

Definitely suggests insufficient timing advance. It posts a recently saved MSQ?

Yes, timing that varies depending on RPM and manifold pressure will generally work pretty well for you.

On a serious note isn't that like one of the first things the mega manual says to do?
Or maybe it's brains sticky...... I don't remember.
Either way I'm glad you figured it out but damn read the basics.....

Glowing means you're driving under load, or making decent mpg; even your stock exhaust would glow if you ran it hard and popped the hood at night. My cast manifold glowed on the freeway at night, and so does my SS manifold...and no one here is running more advance than me. This is why we have water in the head...or the aluminium would sloop. Cast iron glows at 800*, SS glows even lower. The more I cried and worried about this initially, the more I realized that it was normal.
