Oil pan temperature??

This is a bit of a stretch, but does anyone know if the oil pan has the possibility to exceed 300f in a normal situation under low boost (lets say 9psi)?

Most likely not. When I had my oil temperature sensor in the drain plug it was only hitting mid 100's, and on an incredibly hot track day hit mid 200's. I think that's right.

Thanks, I keep making plans to tap the oil pan properly, but real life keeps stepping in and I'm getting frustrated. I don't have the time to let the car sit for even more then a day. :(

What I have now is a fitting held in via JB-Weld with an RTV gasket, and I had the bright idea to use JB-Quik which has a "resistance up to 300f."

It's been in there for a long time now and it's completely solid and doesn't leak oil, I just don't want it to magically disappear one day along the road. :(

I would break 250*f oil temps without the oil cooler on 6th-gear rhomps but that was the only time.

Why didn't you just put a sensor in the drain plug? That's what you get for using JB weld.... now it will always be in the back of your mind.

if my oil temp gauge ever hits 115C (240F?) I back off. I've only hit that twice. I wouldn't worry about it.

Good quality oils can handle much more than this - with a good synthetic in the motor I don't start to get nervous until the ~270-280 range.

Having said that, the Rx7 cooler setup I run on my car keeps temps at ~240 even running at Big Willow in 100*F heat at full power.
