oil pressure gauge no signal bad?
 

I'm starting my build now, and the first step is getting all my gauges in so I can get tuned N/A before going turbo.

I have an mtx-l wideband, and an innovate g2 boost gauge and a g2 oil pressure gauge.

The oil pressure sender will be getting swapped when I install the turbo, but the gauge has power right now. The oil pressure gauge goes off the charts, which I'm assuming is from the signal wire currently dangling behind the dash.

Am I going to break my oil pressure gauge by driving the car having power to the gauge but no signal? Should I ground the signal wire? Should I quit worrying so much and get back to wrenching??

It was making some really loud whirring noises, and I didn't really like it, so I just disconnected it. I'll hook it back up once the sender is in place.

In other news, installing the wideband in my center air vent, I got the "eyeball" out just fine, but how do you install the gauge in there with the ducting back there? I see LOTS of people installing gauges in the vents, do you just drill/dremel the ducting to make room for the cords? or is there an easy way to remove the ducting that I'm not seeing? I don't feel like I should have to remove the whole dash to do this.. NB miata btw.

Sorry, I'll stop flooding this now, but I've done some digging and it looks like there's no good way to remove that ducting without ripping the whole dash apart--which is not something I want to do in order to throw a gauge in there.

I'm pretty sure it's the one labeled (5) in the second diagram of this .pdf.

I guess I'll be taking a dremmel to the duct, unless there's a better way? Not really thrilled about having to do that, as it would be a major PIA to ever "undo".

id personally hook it all the way up or not have it hooked it up no need to take the chance to burn out your new gauge:]

Sorry, I have it all figured out.

The oil pressure sender sends a variable resistance to ground, so I'm just going to ground the signal wire with a potentiometer for now.

The ducts aren't solid all the way through, there's a gap in the way back that I managed to get the wires fed down through.

The gauge is too small for the hole, but one of these babies Bath Drain Washer at Menards filled the space perfectly.
