Oil restrictor with chinese turbo?

Should one be run with a journal bearing chinacharger?

Jeff_Ciesielski 06-15-2010 06:12 PM

Yes. I got a good amount of oil burning by not using one with a -4an feed line. Dropped a pop rivet into the feed line and BAM, no more smoking.

CXRacing recommends it as well.

I made a thread about this a month ago. People told me to try it without one, and if needed put a larger one in.

I was just told on the phone by the company I bought my china turbo from that all turbocharged vehicles should run restrictors, and that he 100% recommends that I use one.

Thanks guys.

Yeah I needed one for mine, pop rivet works but a local hydraulics supply store had a -4AN restrictor for $10 as well so I went with that after using a rivet.

I'm not running one on mine, and didn't run on my garrett T25 either. -4AN line all the way, and so far no problems. It could be that I have less pressure since it is coming off of a sandwich plate from the oil filter.

what about using a pop rivet for us -3an guys?

na8psi 06-16-2010 05:11 AM

I'll second this - I'd also like to know if any of you -3an guys are using a restrictor.

I am burning some oil - seems through the turbo. So I think I do.

Could also be your Garret unit came with one built in?

I think some of the early flack the Chinachargers got for being crap was from average Joe blows forcing 90psi of oil pressure through these things from the get go. Generally, anyone who would spend the money on a more expensive unit would've done better research, had a professional installation or have the pre-existing knowledge to know whether or not the turbo needed restriction.

I've used a T70 China Charger on an RX7 for nearly 3 years and 32,000 miles at 14psi and have had no problems. The cheap manifold however...eh. Don't buy cheap manifolds.
