Oil/water fittings?
 
So, I've got just about everything I need to start putting in my turbo system, just need an intercooler/piping and fittings/lines for the oil and water feeds. I've been searching for the last couple days and still haven't come to a solid conclusion on what fittings I need.

I know I need a flange for the oil drain, but there are a few different ones out there. I'm going with braided lines for obvious reasons, so I'm assuming I need an AN male connection coming out? And should I go for -8, -10, etc?

Oil feed and water lines don't need a flange, so I just need to know what connections would work best. Banjo bolts with an AN connection? Just use a male NPT to male AN? Sizes?

Sorry for asking to be spoonfed something this simple, but every time I start searching I get flustered and ragequit.

The fittings into your turbo depend on the turbo. My GT2554RT was 14mm water fittings (1.5 thread) and the Oil In was a 7/16" inverted flare.

You want your oil in to be restricted (but no smaller than 1mm restriction for BB turbo), and your oil out to be about as big as your arm. Other than that, as long as oil goes in, oil comes out, water goes in, and water comes out, it really doesn't matter.

So you'll need:

2x 14mmx1.5 thread => -4AN fittings (these go into your water in/water out holes on your turbo)
1x 7/16"-24 inverted flare => -4AN fitting--preferably with a restrictor (you can find these on ebay pretty cheap) (this will go into your oil IN)
1x flange plate that matches your Oil Out, and a -10AN fitting coming out of the flange

3x -4AN stainless steel lines (one for water in, one for water out, one for oil in)
1x -10AN stainless steel line (for oil out)

Also need:

2x -4AN => hose barb for water in and out
1x -4AN => 1/8" NPT for oil in
1x 1/8" NPT => 1/8" BPT (this is the thread of your current oil pressure sender, its slightly different from NPT)
1x -10AN to whatever fitting you stick in your oil pan for oil drain.

Clarification: by "it really doesn't matter" i mean that you could use -4an or -6an or whatever. You can use straight fittings, or banjo fittings, or swivel fittings, or fittings covered in sugru shaped like penises. Just find something that screws into your turbo, connect a hose to it, and connect the other end of that hose to where it needs to go.

No idea how I forgot to mention what turbo I'm running, but it's a GT2560R, which seems to use the same fittings as your 2554.
Might have to make some sugru penis covers for everything when it's done ;)

Something like this could also work for your water fittings:
Although honestly, just take the above shopping list and go to your local hydraulics shop (there's one in the back of my local Auto Value) and they'll get you everything you need.

I just took my Turbo with me into Planart in the back of Auto Value and 10 minutes and $25 later I had all the fittings I needed, and he even brazed closed the Oil In fitting and drilled out a hole in it exactly the size I wanted.

Alternatively, I know BEGi sells all the stuff you need in a nice little kit, and I'm sure FM probably does as well, along with other places.

Resurrecting this old thread. Is there any functional difference between using -3AN vs. -4AN (hose and fittings) if you have a (1mm) restrictor at the turbo oil inlet?

I was wondering the same and decided to go with -3 as I could then use a motorcycle braided brake line which was much easier and cheaper to get hold of than a dedicated made up line. I was going with the theory that the restriction in the end would be what governed the flow so as long as the hose was larger internal diameter than the hole in the banjo bolt it would be fine. Not had a problem since doing this.

My Banjo bolt is the restrictor as it only has a 1.2mm/1.5mm hole in the end of the bolt. Either way it’s much smaller than the internal diameter of a motorcycle brake hose which is over 3mm.
