opinions on EWG and dump pipes

hey guys so i was having a little trouble finding any real good in depth looks into dump pipes for the external waste gate and i was looking for some info or opinions i should say regarding where to pipe it to, opinions on VTA and or plumbed back into the exhaust also need some thoughts on doing a EWG dump pipe out the hood just because how easy it will be. yes i do realize how ghetto it may be and how loud it may be but i cant imagine if you drive civil and dont get into boost its not gonna be loud and shooting flames all over town. but anyway just looking for some thoughts

oh and im running a t25 off an sr20 with a FM manifold and Down pipe manifold has been modified to take a tial 38mm on top of it (location was not my doing i bought it that way and got a killer deal on it.
also have a fully built forged internals engine build thread that i will be updating with this adding of the turbo soon if you want to know more

Expect the dump pipe to crack due to vibration. Savington went that route years ago, and after a short while routed the EWG back into the exhaust.

Utefan66 03-17-2017 07:38 PM

interesting i do remember reading something like that you had posted in one of the few threads i found. do you have any idea on how long it took before it cracked
the problem im having with plumbing it back in to the exhaust is i dont have access to the vast array of fabricating tools i had when this projected first went under way over a year ago so dont have much of a way to weld it up or make on so i was looking for ideas that would make it at least a fairly easy bolt on affair which im realizing is probably
any ways basically just looking for solutions and thoughts such as pros and cons which the cracking is a deffinite con but i mean if it took a while that's a fairly cheap pipe lol I could just keep replacing it

I've got a similar setup with a dumped external wastegate. BEGI cast manifold with ATP EWG turbine housing, then a 3 inch exhaust squeezed down into a stock MSM muffler. I love the setup sound wise; it sounds totally stock until the wastegate opens, then it screams like a jet taking off when you get on it.

I ran the wastegate dump down next to the downpipe and chopped it off even with the bottom of the subframe. It was easy enough to build (just a couple small bends) but I get nasty exhaust soot down the bottom of the car. I can't imagine how terrible it would be dumping that crap on the windshield squarely in front of the driver's face. Then you've got the ugly ghetto holes in the hood. That just seems like a horrible idea to me unless it's some insane build running 8's in the 1/4 and you've got a designated pit crew guy to clean your windshield after every pass.

I get soot all on my trans, glad I'm not the only one.
OP Vta ewg's are too much for some people. I might be putting mine back into my exhaust just because of how loud it is. Inside the car it sounds very loud, almost to the point where I feel like a nuisance to near by homeowners.

You are most definitely a nuisance to them.

It's only that super loud when you get on it into boost to boost though right
and I'll try to post a few pics of the set up so you see what I'm looking at

This is why I went with a v band wastegate. 2 bolt flange doesn't allow multiple positioning.

Interesting, eh!

Shockingly I didn't think it was all that loud in your car. I expected it to be louder tbh. I was probably granny shifting though...

nbfather 03-19-2017 08:38 AM

Your wastegate opens up beside homeowners?......Rice right there.

Cops use that sound as a homing beacon.....Utefan
Clearly you need the noisemaker dude...just do it
You only live once, just don't be a douche and open it up in a residential area!

Is that an ebay 38mm Tial?
I have never owned anything Tial, but I have a 40mm Turbosmart in front of me.
One of these does not look like it like the other...and I'm not talking about the 2mm larger hole!
If that is a real Tial I can see why it was out flowed by the EFR internal gate.
Not impressed!

Utefan66 03-19-2017 08:13 PM

Ya I have been thinking about buying a vband adapter for the 2-bolt for that exact reason thirdgen

and NBfather thanks for the input on the sound I deffinatley deciding I'll get something fabricated and not go out the hood and if I do VTA I wouldn't be a douche bag like that and get in boost in residential areas. Yes it's a real tial authentic aproved did not buy it on eBay bought it from extreme psi they sell stuff for suburbs and evos and stuff .....what about yours looks different ....also worth saying that's not mounted just slapped on there with random stuff for the picture

"short while" meaning a few laps IIRC. Andrew Mig'ed the EWG back on at the track and it lasted another few laps. I was dumb and didn't support the end of the pipe with something. So it as a 2 foot long tuning fork...oops. Support the end of the dump pipe and it will be fine. It certainly is easier than plumbing it back.

It will be annoyingly loud though.

My dump tube parallels the downpipe and is supported at the bottom by a bracket to one of the oil pan screws. I did not build it. I think it sounds awesome, but it is definitely not stealth mode.

Utefan66 03-20-2017 08:40 PM

Thanks for the pics turbotim your input much appreciated and very helpful now just a question for every one if you do vta the external waste gate dump does it affect tuning numbers

ryansmoneypit 03-20-2017 09:09 PM

Why not block it off and use a turbo with an internal wastegate?

Utefan66 04-06-2017 01:32 PM

the guy who is building the intercooler piping for me is now also suggesting a screamer pipe out the hood for the wastegate  so i have no idea what to do ...... another worry with that method would be what happens to it when it rains wont it cause a ton of issues if water gets in there ....... anyway just looking for some opinions/ pros cons. someone to play the devils advocate to all the people in my ear telling me to do it

aidandj 04-06-2017 01:34 PM

Gotta have a u bend in the screamer so the water pools up and doesnt get to the waste gate

Attachment 230407

Sounds like your fab guy is getting lazy and picking the easy way out. Thats what I did on my friends downpipe

Utefan66 04-06-2017 01:42 PM

That's what I was thinking when he said it to lol
but honestly don't know what I'm gonna do
