opinions of jgs precision manifold

I just wanted to hear reviews of the jgs manifold. It looks good to me and comes with a 90 day warranty something I couldn't find on the bell website.

I did search first. I read some good, some bad but most of the bad seemed to come from no flex pipe in the exhaust and soft motor mounts.

I would appreciate your opinions, thanks guys.

as far as i know only one mainfold from bell has broken. If i was going jgs i would just make my own. If i was going to buy one it would be BEGI.

Log manifolds arent hard to make, hardest part is the flange (need a mill) if you have the flange you can go with a drill press to make the manifold.

I am going to start offering the JGS style log manifold. I am making one for ColoradoSpringsMiata right now. You can see images on my cardomain of my setup. I use stainless runners in a thinner wall, and with the optional external wastegate port, they are $350+shipping.

You say with a thinner wall, what type of stainless weldels will you be using(grade, wall thickness). Is that a price with any coating of sort?

TheBandit 12-27-2006 03:05 AM

The manifold uses 304/304L Sch. 10 (.109 wall) runners vs. Mild Steel Sch. 40 (.145 wall) that JGS uses. That price does not come with any coatings.

I don't know about their manifolds but I have bought a few things with them and had good experiences.

logs have always proved to work fine across vairous applications. JGS does nothing new by providing some weld-els matched to a flange. Buy the kit and weld it yourself and save $$$.

I'm sure the failed one you came across here was mine, which was the result of poor exhaust design. Now I'm using the BEGi manifold....not a replacement JGS.

I had a JGS back in the day, it cracked at the wastegate pipe welds.

Do you now run a custom log manifold? Do you still have whats left of the jgs?

I run a carbon steel log w/ a jethot 2000 coating at the moment. I had the old JGS welded and sold it a while ago.

My JGS log mani is running fine for several years now. I didnt weld it myself, they did. I ported it and ceramic coated it after I got it but otherwise no mods (no relief cuts or any of that).

displacementreplacement 01-03-2007 09:20 AM

how is the fit on the mani? I would rather not cut anything. Also did you have any problem routing the waistgate pipe? Looks like it would require tight bends. I wish they had put the wg flange on the top side and clocked it to the rear.

Braineack 01-03-2007 09:30 AM

here's how BEGi tackled theirs:

Ya, but bell isnt cheap. But they are the shit.

My P5 has a JGS, I welded it two years ago, and it now has ~ 40K miles. The turbo hangs from the bottom of the manifold with no bracing. Very happy with it:)

I just ordered from oil lines from them (another project) and have always been satisfied with the work and service. Also Lance is very knowledgeable and helpful when dealing with turbo sizes and such.

Efini~FC3S 01-03-2007 09:00 PM

I'll post pics of my JGS diy stage 1 turbo header when I get it completely finished.

As of right now I don't really have anything constructive to add other than I went with this manifold and have used JGS products in the past and have only good things to say. Yay Lance!

holy crap man, how many spools of wire did you go through welding that thing up??

Braineack 01-03-2007 10:53 PM

i dunno i paid someone else to do it.
