Opinions on the look of my pistons

Hi guys,
I recently bought a simple USB stethoskop camera to have a look at the top of my pistons... This is how they do look like: (from front to back) - and the spark plugs for the cylinders Cylinder Nr. 1 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1359637821 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1359637821 Cylinder Nr. 2 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1359637821 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1359637821 Cylinder Nr. 3 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1359637821 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1359637821 Cylinder Nr. 4 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1359637821 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1359637821 And here are the videos of the cylinders Nr. 1 Nr. 2 Nr. 3 Nr. 4 Looks like I got a wee bit of knock, some carbon buildup... What are your opinions/suggestions? Thanks |
I cant see the pics (unsure why they didnt attach here). Otherwise, I just watched vidceo 4 and I dont get to see the squish area.

Anyone else problems with the pictures?
|
they work now.

It looks like something ventured into/bounced around your #1 cylinder maybe. Unless that's just indents into the carbon layer?
|
Looks like the carbon layer is crackin and flaking.
The real question is, what made you look into this? Do you suspect something is wrong? |
The carbon layer on the pistons look to be breaking off. I am with Miater on this did you have a problem you are trying to solve or were you just looking to look.
|
Well mostly because I am a bit paranoid about the car since I am driving a turbo Miata...:giggle:
Also since the car is off the streets during winter time - I have to keep myself busy. So you think it's just carbon layer flaking offf? |
I would say its just carbon flaking off. If you run water/methanol injection they will be almost brand new clean with in two days. :)

Do a seafoam treatment then take some more pics.

Fuel injector cleaner will do a pretty good job of the same thing. Let it get sucked into a vaccum line a little at a time.
