Pierburg instructions?
 

For some stupid reason, I am having trouble finding installation instructions for the pierburg pump. FM doesn't have their instructions available anymore and I am having a hard time finding any pictures online. I am assuming I can figure it out, but that hasn't always worked for my dim witted self. I actually thought they would come with the pump from BEGI. The car should be finished this weekend and I plan on doing a write up with pictures. I may even be able to answer someone else's questions eventually. Without your knowledge, this would not have gotten this far. Thanks.

Think the original BEGi Pierberg instructions were better. It suspended the pump from the drivers side trunk inside a silicone sleeve. Vibrations are not transmitted thru the vehicle. Fuel lines were routed over the PPF.

Those instructions seem not to have been proofread very well prior to publishing. They state removing the fuel cap relieves pressure to the fuel filter. LOL.

I am confused?!?! What instructions are you reading? The version I have says fuel tank, not filter.... maybe it's another one of my infamous 'brunette moments'. :)

Removing the fuel cap does nothing to relieve pressure at the fuel filter, where disconnecting the filter line is the first step to install the Pierberg. If not doing this will get sprayed with pressurized fuel unless Miata has been sitting overnight.

Removing the fuel cap would have benefit when installing the AFPR since the return line is on the opposide side of the stock FPR.

Ahh. I get it now.... My current instructions don't say that. :)

Corky wrote the first draft for FM on those instructions. However, he can hardly take the blame for the final version and their edits.

I just removed my inline fuel pump and changed injectors this weekend. Car sat for all about about 10 minutes before getting into it. Used fuel line clamps and it was all good. Did the pump first then the injectors, no big spray of fuel at most we lost what was sitting in about 10 inch of line and what the pump had in it.

Tried to find my old Aerodyne instructions, but that was 12 years ago and in another state. My point is that removing any pressure or vacuum in the fuel tank does nothing to depressurize the fuel at the rail or filter. I would still pull the fuel cap anyway while working in driveway during the Florida summer heat. That little tiny pressure vent system in the fuel cap with feeble spring/ball/lever system is no match for the volume of fuel and air in the tank.

Only takes a moment to depressurize using the COR or fuel pump relay method. Unknown about the Miatas without the fuel return line. Will still dribble some fuel from the rail and lines but can either clamp or just plug the lines. Can still clamp the line on the engine side of the filter prior to removal and minimize the problem.

Still prefer this method of mounting the pump in the sleeve under the trunk rather than clamping it to the filter. Many complaints on multiple lists about about the noise and vibrations transmitted to the chassis.

I have heard people complain in the past. But not within the last year. Here's a picture of the new mount. On the 2 we installed here, you had to really listen to hear them. This is on the 1.6 & 1.8. The 99+ pierburgs mount in the engine bay.

I was going to install my pierburg this weekend but I couldn't make heads or tails of these fittings. They don't seem to match up with what any of the instructions say. Any ideas?
