Please help choosing T3 Flanged Turbo

I'm helping my son turbo his 1.6 Miata. Were on a budget so unless we find good name brand parts at least some new parts will need to come from Fleabay and elsewhere.
I have my eye on a cast turbo manifold but it only accepts T3 flanges. I would rather not use an adapter since I've seen some people having to saw pieces out of the engine bay to get the turbo to fit.

My bench mark is my old Greddy TD04H-15G It spooled up low on the RPM and seemed to pull hard to the red line.

I'd like for boost to come in by 2500 to 3000 RPM

The bottom end and rear are stock so we will not go past 11psi of boost.

Aside for the flange , Some of the turbo's that I've read fit the bill ; GT2554, GTX2860R, GT2560 Universal T3/T4 .48 hot side with 45 trim , T3-Super 60

We are open to Chinese units if need be but would prefer major brands.

I would appreciate any help or information.

Thanks

Poobs

Any boost is too much for a 1.6 differential.... according to people that are in the know.

True. He knows he has to source a better rear. I'm just helping out with the turbo.

If you have any pull-a-part around I would recommend looking for a Volvo V70/S60/S80 preferably a T5 or a 2,4T around 2001-2006.
The T5 uses a td04 hl 16T I believe and a somewhat smaller turbo on the 2,4T.
Should be plenty for a 1,6 anyhow. The oem flange has a "labyrinth" seal but the bolt pattern is straight T3.

Just a thought.

Would finding a manifold that takes T25/T28 open up more options for me ??

Found this http://www.xs-power.com/mazda-turbo-manifolds-4.htm

Yeah, that's not a bad idea but I think that turbo will come in even later on the 1.6 than it does on the 1.8.

You are going to spend more money going with a custom setup 100% of the time even if you get a cheap manifold. Go with the MK kit or a Kraken kit with a t25 turbo. I paid 750$ for a custom td04 from Taiwan. A genuine 2554 is going to be 900$ shipped a t3/t4 is going to be closer to 1200$ just for the turbo. All the little things add up quick. I have 3k into a td04 setup and I didn't have to buy a manifold or chargepiping. If you go with any of those cheap manifolds you will have to get a custom downpipe fabricated. I paid 700$ for a downpipe with your same td04h-15g and 3" piping. With any of those kits you get all of the fittings and lines that you are going to have to get custom made without it. If you are worried about getting the 100% most optimal spool with a optimal sized turbo you are going to pay for it. Either cheap and quick with a kit or fabricate everything yourself. You can't have both. Even then you will be better off getting a manifold from MK or Kraken. Going with a cheap ebay manifold is just going to cause headaches in the long run. Also worrying about 3or400 rpm in spool on a 1.6 setup is really dumb. If you want to get the best spool get a 1.8 they are a drop in the bucket when you are already going to be spending 4-5k on getting your stuff running. If you want the cheap way get the MK kit and enjoy the spool noises and double the horsepower. If you want the most optimal setup that has instant spool and is 100% reliable sell the 1.6 car and buy a 94/95 car and start from there.

There's no better deal on a budget then the MKTurbo.

If you want better spool then the proven T3 turbos, you should just go with a 1.8. Swapping to a 1.8 with some of the 1.8 deals out there is going to be less than upgrading from a proven chinacharger t3 to a turbo that spools as you want on a 1.6, and likely the spool will be pretty similar on a proven t3 on a 1.8 vs a 1.6.

There are not any ebay china chargers that will spool faster then the one I use with my setups. I can supply legit Garrett turbos that drop in, they just add to cost.

Thank you very much gentlemen. I'm definitely leaning toward the MK kit.

MK turbo will be a great kit and get you up and running no problem.

As far as the 1.6 rear end, I am at 15k miles boosted, making ~200whp and 175ftlbs on the original 1.6 diff with 170k miles on it. Treat is kindly and it will likely put up with boost for a while.
