Default Toyota COPs in '01 valve cover

Are there any COPs that fit in the '01 valve cover without any grinding of anything?

the hole.

the shaft

what happens if you do nothing

you have to trim the COP's original mounting ear off among other things

fun, no?

I have some mazda millenia COPs. Just measured them with my caliper at .910 for the largerst OD that goes into the sparkplug hole. They physically fit in my 99 FWIW.

https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t25698/

They are 1.39" wide not counting the bolting ears, which are part of the coil, so I wouldn't recommend cutting. Anyway, there's some pics in that thread with dimensions.

prob a worse choice since the coil will probably rest where the threaded bosses on the 01 cover are.

Ah, yeah, they would definitely hit on cylinders 3 & 4 in your pic. But they fit my 99 ok, and look good IMO. I never finished the COP install though. I'll do that this summer probably.

just enlarge the hole on the valve cover or sand down the cops.

I've got a spare '01 cover if you eff it up or want a spare to play with.

pulling an 01 valve cover is only slightly harder than an earlier one. oil banjo fitting and OCV parts that might get lost is about all you gotta worry about. still, it can be done.
