im looking for insight on a catch can set up for high hp miata's(400hp +)
specificly i want to know if i can remove the pcv valve and run a 10an line to my catch can. and two 10an line off the exhaust side of the valve cover. does any one on here run something like this?? Attachment 214242 Attachment 214243 |

if you have a catch can / filter / something to remove the oil mist, what's wrong with having it go back to the intake?

mine is for pressure alone, making sure the oil doesn't cover the engine bay is French benefit...

yes the less pressure in the crank case the easyer the pistons move= more power,my boss's big block runs a vaccume pump,he picked up like 20 crank hp on our superflow engine dyno. and with high hp cars you dont want to run back into intake, turns every thing black and nasty, turbo cars blow out alot of oil mist.my car is gonna be pushing 400hp, it is a purpose built race car, built to formula d specs. the drft in my name is cause i drift, i live in ct and my car is a na. my big question is will i have any negitive effects of removing the pcv valve and just venting that to the catch can.

my setup would be indentical to what you posted exept i would have another line coming out of the driver side of the valve cover.

Haven't seen that on any Miatas- but no reason why it can't be done. Most higher boost applications I've seen eliminate the pvc just because it becomes more difficult to prevent the valve from leaking. And most of those cars are daily driven so the pcv valve serves less benefit. IMO a turbo'd daily drive benefits from both a good vent system under boost and a good pcv under normal driving.
I've never heard of drifting, but it sounds like fun. |

Y8S, true, but the gasses will take the path of least resistance, so if he drills out the openings he will be ok, not?

all that check valve is doing is keeping presure from the intake manifold from blowing into the valve cover right, so if you remove the hose from the manifold and run it to the catch can there is no pressure and still a vent
