it really gets good when they discuss electric turbo's.... Yep. |
why are they even talking about modifying the prius in the first place...
I couldn't even read the whole thread there was so much stupid |
Haha, dumb ******s.
|
what the hell?
|
I am dumber now.
|
Next up, V8 swap.

Yesterday I spoke to a guy in CA (626-839-8350), who actually installed a turbo in a 2004 with great success. It boosted the engine power from 75 hp to over 100 hp. They only modified one Prius and decidied not to go any further. That car is in Japan. It would have cost around $600. Attachment 199052 |
Ask yourself something though: Is wanting "performance" out of a Prius really any different than wanting it from a honda civic?
I think its one in the same.. |
They should have bought a VW TDI. The turbo diesel would love those hills & more power is a chip away.
|
"i am looking to add a turbo to the prius not for more power but for more feul eff.
more air into the engine means to me a better burn and so less fuel needs to be taken in." |
Shame someone on here can't get a surplus of electric turbos together and do a prius group buy lol, make some money off those idiots.
|
Don't they already sell those little electric superchargers that go into your intake? Maybe you could buy a lot of those in bulk dirt cheap and mark them up. Haha! Just a thought...
|
Nice...
e-Racing :: OFFICIAL SITE :: The e-RAM Electric Supercharger from e-Racing Motorsports Now where can I get one....group buy anyone? Turbo In-Line Bilge Blower from Wholesale Marine |
Good. Hopefully they will blow up their cars which I am sure are already setup relatively lean from the factory and with decent compression and then give the Prius an even worse name so that we dont have to subsidize those things as much and the propective owners will just buy TDis so that this country can start showing the automakers that we LIKE small sporty cars with TQ that get good gas mileage even if they do sound a little different.
I cant wait for people to start realy thinking about what types of matirials go into those battery packs and where those matirials come from. Makes an oil well look like a granola bar. |

On a side note... why are we reading a thread started 5 years ago...with a 2-year revival in 2007 and another 2-year revival in 09? What a bunch of dumbfucks. |

Hmmmm torque.
|
That's why they spank stock Miatas.
|
Holy crap seriously, I ventured into the fuel economy section of that forum and one of the first topics was UNEVEN TIRES
Let's say someone's left front tire is 43psi and the right front is 42psi--that someone being me. Safety concerns aside, what sort of effect could this potentially have on your mileage? I found my tires to be off by 1-2PSI on each side recently. Obviously I evened them out immediately, but it made me wonder if I could've lost a significant percentage of potential efficiency. Thoughts? |

I wonder what it would do if it just got a massive amount of amperage to the electic motor right off the line, like say an aftermarket capacitive discharge type of deal. Probably melt things, but I bet it would be fast for a little while.
|
Now that I think about it, we should rent a Prenius with the full insurance package and do whatever it takes to get the WORST MILEAGE POSSIBLE...
Then maybe see how much abuse they can take. Might have to hack-n-crack the computer for some neutral drops... |

Old school OHC domestic V6. Worst mileage per HP I have ever seen. Good TQ though. And cheap.
|
KPLAFIN thanks for posting that pic lol..I am bored today I HAVE REVIVED THE PRIUS THREAD!

I drive a prius, and I understand why an electric turbo is a bad idea :(

^ Just call them a tree-hugger and to GTFO... Done!
|
hahaha I cant believe that whole entire forum!!!
I bet they have better ---- parties than we do... with organic lube!! |
it's actually quasi synthetic, but made from all natural ingredients... essentially the same thing.
i could make a few calls and hook us up with a 55 gallon test drum if y'all like. |

Safety concerns aside, what sort of effect could having man-on-man butt sex in the drivers seat with these conditions have on your mileage? I found my tires to be off by 1-2PSI on each side recently. Obviously I evened them out immediately and got a massive boner, but it made me wonder while having even more man-on-man butt sex and getting squirted in the face if I could've lost a significant percentage of potential efficiency. Thoughts? Fixed. |
Prius owners are dedicated! For real. My high school physics teacher had one and he was crazy about it. When we didn't want to do class work I'd ask him about his Prius or Bush and he'd spend the whole class talking and talking while we messed around. At the end he be like fuck, the test is next week.
|
I'm so glad I bought my TDi and not a hybrid. Plenty of torque and my city mileage is better than a lot of cars' highway mileage.
|
lol someone find the thread were they stated they were the fastest street legal car in the world 0-5mph, it was a couple of years ago but me and the GTO board lol'ed.

^ American societies current view on diesels, which is only being refueled by all these morons with stacks, big sticks, boxes, and no turbo setup to backup the amount of fuel they are dumping. Once people see the light, we will see far more diesel engines in smaller vehicles....... Unless the EPA gets it their way. They are choking the diesel engines, killing HP, MPG, and engine longevity. |

WTF is the point of this thread?
That Prius electric supercharger discussion was in 2005! If I were a nerd that needed to bump 25 more hp from my Prius to make it up steep slopes in Colorado, I might have looked into a forced induction solution. Seems like there are some people that had enough sense to try talk the guy out of it (BT Tech). That seemed like a retarded way to necro a thread in an attempt to make fun of something that really wasn't particularly pathetic, just a little misguided. |
I remember reading about a honda insight owner (the gen1) who had turbo'd his car for moar powah! I was years ago (~01?) and iirc the guy was a cop. I think he did it with an aux injector setup.
Search revealed there are tons of turbo hybrids now..... |

Do you guys regularly go sit on a bench at the mall and look for people to laugh at and psychoanalyze as they walk by?
I had some "friends" that loved to do this, I later found out they were pretty shitty people. You just reminded me of them. "Look ma! People on the internet I can laugh at." I give them kudos for at least looking into it, regardless of their competence level. There is only one way to learn, and that is explore, assess what you don't know, accept it, and seek the knowledge you are lacking. Now maybe they stopped at step 1...but I agree it probably wasn't worth a thread, and CERTAINLY wasn't worth registering over there just to stir the pot. |

But yes, it just goes to show that if people will modify a Prius for performance, they will modify anything. Lawnmowers, leaf blowers, ad nauseum... |
Riding lawnmower racing is awesome. Those guys are serious.

Not to be contrary here, but there are serious turbo designers/companies looking at turbos (for piston engines) with electric motors/generators, and I do not mean the eBay snake oil electric superchargers. There is some serious potential win there believe it or not. I cannot (should not) elaborate further.

There is a lot more to it than that, but like I said I cannot comment more.

Another type of racing that seriously amuses me is those little 50+horse Mopeds. straight insane.
|
I met a tech at a local motorcycle shop that races mopeds. Raced an Aprilia scooter IIRC. He gave me the quick run down on the whole thing. I had no idea, crazy stuff.
I saw a lawnmower drag racing event/demo at one of the local county fairs. The driver (rider?) had a braking failure at the end of his run (modified mower so he was moving fast) and went straight through a hay bale wall into a crowd of people. Amazingly no one was hurt. |
Lol electric superchargers... was it. check out this site, it is pretty much rechargeable nitrous. thomas knight : turbo upgrades + superchargers
The belt driven turbocharger? |
