problem with axle in high hp miata

what about the axles in high hp miata .
my target is 550-600 hp and i dont know if i put drag radial tire
have any broke axle ???

cardriverx 07-21-2007 02:17 AM

the trans and diff will break first.. and the only way to get that power is with FMs stroker and a built motor..

CEO 07-21-2007 09:19 AM

i have rx7 tranny and cusco diff and FM stroker built motor .

see in my new st up ...

CEO you are askin questions about stuff that most people haven't come close to doing, sooo if i were you i would go talk to that guy that has the 600hp drag miata. thats probably where you'll find your answers. good luck with your project.

Email Rob at Flipside. He runs a full RX7 Turbo II rear diff, axles and hubs. His email is exit5@comcast.net

Might as well as throw a ford 8inch in it. Properly setup it shouldn't matter on the track if you have a IRS or Live axle.

bripab007 07-23-2007 08:46 AM

Yeah, when there are two companies out there making rear sub-frames/diff. mounting assemblies and custom cv axles specifically for mounting Ford 7.5" and 8.8" rear-ends to the Miata...I really don't see the point in mounting the 8" RX-7 Turbo II rear-end to the Miata. Unless you have more free time than free money, and someone gives you a free TII rear-end...then, maybe.

motoworx on m.net says he's cracking the 7" diff case before breaking any other Miata parts. He's running a nissan trans with the 7" rear and half shafts. The diff is modified with a pinion bushing/mount rather than using the ppf.

It did for Skyler. He originally started out with a ford rear, but class rules at the local dragstrip made him convert it to rx7.

I wonder if it's his mount then? If it were mounted to a PPF, then the tranny, driveshaft, and diff would all move together. They kind of "twist" or rotate just a bit. But since the mounting points are isolated, the items don't move in unison, causing additional stress then failure?

magnamx-5 07-23-2007 06:27 PM

yeah he was running what 500+ whp with alot of abuse and the housings just seemed to shear on him that was some freaky shit there.

I think you're right. That's why it's a C channel- it's designed to twist. But he swears that he's broken more than one of them and that they're useless for the kind of power he's making. Doesn't the corvette still use a ppf? I'm still impressed that the gears and shafts are managing that kind of power. My plan (one day) is use the 7" rear, with the ppf mounted to the R trans and Mazda van bellhousing bolt to the Fe. So I'm hoping that rear is as strong as it looks. - rob

where i can find this 7'' rear??

BenR 07-24-2007 01:59 AM

94+

Slidin'Miata916 07-25-2007 06:20 AM

Or you can get a 9" ThunderBird Rear end. Common for Monster Miata's. And Drag Mustangs!

bripab007 07-25-2007 08:12 AM

The last vette to use a PPF was the C4; with the C5 and C6 and their rear-mounted trannies, they use torque-tubes to connect the engine to transaxle.

I installed a TII diff and starting to get ready to look into a stronger trans for my turbo miata. The TII diff install is pretty time consuming, but only cost me $200. However I machined the hubs down with help of friends at no cost. The swap to TII diff would not be that hard due to fact that can purchase hubs from miataroadster. Then you only have to get driveshaft fabbed and mount for diff. However other rearends may be better options for gearing but that depends on what you want to use your car for.

M-Tuned 08-16-2008 06:25 PM

I broke over 2 Dozen axles in my old Miata drag racing it at 450hp! I eventually had Driveshaft Shop build me a custom set of Axles for the car. I sold them to some dude in Vegas and never heard from him again.

ApexOnYou 08-17-2008 03:44 AM

I was just trying to think of where I saw someone with axles from the driveshaft shop lol. Do you recall how much those ran?

That guy is an enormous ------. He swore up and down that the stock 5-speed was "reliable" at 300whp, and then he got his little panties all up in a twist when I told him he was a retard. He didn't respond a week later when I asked him to explain why I had just torched my 5-speed - at 219whp.

Fucking tool.
