I'm about to order intercooler and before I do I started thinking. Show I do I regular front mount, over the rad one, or v-mount one? Vote on the poll and back up your vote with a response.

It really depends on what you want. They all do the same thing.

If you already have a front mount then just re-use your current piping and keep it simple.

Well I'm re doing the whole thing, pipes too. Only reason I'm cosidering v-mount and over the rad is for quicker spool.

Shorter intake tract should yield better throttle response. However, I thought I read one of brainesacks post and he said intake length was irrelevant, it is the IC sore size that affects throttle response. I don't remember.

IIRC he was quoting Corky Bell's book about IC piping length being pretty much irrelevant on a blow-through turbo system.

When you look at how much air your actually moving as a CFM flow rate or mass flow rate, then look at the actual volume of your piping and IC, its pretty irrelevant 90% of the time. Its the consuption rate of the air ased on the engines VE and RPM and the spool of the turbo that really determines boost/response at a given time/rpm. Long story short you have to get pretty crazy with the sizing to hurt performance. Now I do think going with a huge pipe (say 3.5" or something) could hurt velocity and might affect response, but I really dont know.

I say go with whatever will be the easiest to deal with when you are working in the engine bay, and looks nice and clean.

Alright it seems like front mount won and it will be the easiest one to do. I'll order it this week and get to work.

How do your intercooler pipes and routing look now? Are you planning on changing the route or pipe diameter?

It's routed under the rad right now but I'm gonna do around the sides with the new one. I have 2" hot side and 2.5" cold side and it will stay the same diameter.
