q's on 14b build
Sourcing parts for my turbo build. Running 14b. Right now I have
-16G flanged manifold and downpipe for miata. They say it's for the 1.6, but I'm guessing the fitment will suck anyway. Now I know why I got a TIG. -14b, stock off a 1g DSM. Internal wastegate, blah, blah, blah... -312cc injectors from an NA 2jz. If they don't work, I have access to some NA RX7 ones in need be. -FMIC(28x6.5x3) The questions I had were that I was looking at getting a voodoo box for right now. How would that function running the larger injectors? I will be running a MS in the future, but it's overkill for right now. The internal wastegate can only go down to 7psi. I can mess around with it and make it run 5, but I figured I'd just stick with 7 if it's possible with what I have. |
Do you already have the voodoo box? I'd say just run the MS now and not have to worry about anything.
The problem (as far as I know) with running larger injectors is compatibility with your AFM. Check out the DIY turbo faq, there is more info about it there. But again, if you were looking to buy the voodoo box, i'd just spend the money on a MS from the start. |
fuck the voodoo box. fuck puny 312cc injectors.
also, fuck 7psi. I'm running ~13psi on my 14b and am about to kick it up a notch. |

lol fuck that happy meal shit. It's like $600 and you don't need a fancy fandangled flywheel. Get a 1.8 flywheel from the auto-parts store for $50 and an egay clutch. That's like 30% the price of a crappy deal.

Yah, egay clutches are awesome. Also, on the 14b you can just put a vortec fuel riser in, some stock 94+ miata 225CC injectors, and run 7lbs of boost without engine management. That way, you can enjoy boost, not waste your money on voodoo, and save up for MS or AEM EMS. |
I was just thinking that if I'm going to have to get the FM O2 signal modifier, why not just get the voodoo box. Though, it's hard to decipher exactly what else it does than the 02 modifier and lengthen signals going to the stock injectors. Is it worth while to get it for any other functionality, or would it even work with upgraded injectors?

for the price of a voodoo box, you can get an F/IC, or build your own MS. If you get the voodoo, I will lose the immense amount of respect I have for you. btw - F/IC does o2 signal correction amongst other things. My car runs like stock out of boost and has never detonated. |

I've never used one but it sounds like a gay device for making your car gay.
To be honest, I've never dealt with turboing a miata before. From what I read, it makes the stumbling going from closed loop to open seem like the car will detonate and send piston shrapnel all over the place, thus why I was thinking about spending the $100 on the o2 signal modifier. I've seen voodoo boxes going for $150-$200 ranges and figured what the hell on the extra price. The F/IC is an ass rape at $400 for me right now. I just want the essentials for the car to be running under boost. If it all comes down to it, I might just spring for the MS. |

I bought an Egay clutch a year and a half ago, and it was awesome 2 months later when the throwout bearing disintegrated... when I was 1000km away from home, in a town that had one repair shop, no auto parts stores... had to drive 300kms without a clutch just to get to a place where I could buy a clutch.
Yah, egay clutches are awesome. also -1 on getting the voodoo box, if you want cheap just get an EMB |

Get the MS and you will not have to replace it later. It can grow with your modifications.
The trick is to only buy things that will be useful as you move towards whatever your ultimate goals are. Try not to buy things that you will need to sell next year for half of the price you paid for them. That makes you go backwards. |

YouTube - Group X - Bang Bang Bang! I'll see your Bang Bang Bang and raise you a Bang. That's Bang Bang Bang Bang. This is degenerating quickly into a bang fest. Back on topic: There's plenty of good power to be made in the 1.6 You wouldn't need to swap that out in the short run, or ever for that matter. Unless you wanted to... |

YouTube - Group X - Bang Bang Bang! Flash » Group X - Peanuts Back on topic, I'm really not setting big power goals. I'll be happy with 200whp. I don't expect to make that quite yet, thinking more like the 180 neighborhood until I have the fundage to swap diffs and clutch. I might shoot for something higher down the road, but who knows at this point. |
