question about fastening stuff

I have no room in my engine bay to mount an oil filter, so I'm going to run the line out under the passenger side fender, forward of the wheel. Anyway, the frame there isn't accessible from the other side, so I cant put a bolt through the metal and stick a nut on the other side. The remote oil filter mount has 3 holes that can fit a 5/16ths wide screw/bolt. I lack welding equipment or skills to weld a nut onto the outside of the frame

Help me choose:
1) drill a 1/4 inch hole and stick 3 self tapping 5/16th inch bolts through
2) drill a 1/4 inch hole and tap it 5/16ths and use machine screws
3) jb weld and duct tape it

I'm leaning towards 1 since it will be less hassle. If it ever starts coming loose, I can just JB weld to reinforce the screws.

I'll post complete pics and parts list when I get it together. Right now it is looking like the setup will be mostly invisible behind the front bumper.

I would install nutserts in the side of the body you can access so you can bolt the filter mount solidly. I wouldn't fuck around with screws or JB Weld for something as important as oil.

See, that's why I asked. I never heard of nutserts before. Where do I get them?

Most hardware stores will have a small selection. Also check any fastener stores near you.

Many thanks. Will report back.

They're called "rivet nuts" by the way people. Nutserts are a brand name and almost no one sells them.

^lol.

Glad you did the leg work for us on that one :)

Oh and you need to go to industrial supply or specialty fastener shops to get them. Home depot and lowes have no idea what they are.

McMaster probably sells some. I know they sell tons of forms of captive nuts (the real name)

Grainger Industrial had them locally.
