Quick, whats the diameter of the throttle body?

I want to order my IC stuff and I forgot what diameter elbow I need for the throttle body.

2.5"

Saml01 04-29-2008 10:39 AM

Are you sure?

I coulda sworn it was larger, I was planning on using a 2.5 inch pipe I just dont remember if I needed a 2.5 inch to 2.75 or 2.5 to 3.

I know the MAF housing is larger then 2.5.

Zabac 04-29-2008 10:44 AM

I am pretty sure...I have a 2.5" ID coupler there now

Braineack 04-29-2008 10:54 AM

its a little smaller than 2.5" IIRC, but a 2.5" couple works best.

Zabac 04-29-2008 11:03 AM

wasn't it like 53mm or something like that...OD is very close to 2.5"

:) I have a 2.5 90 degree coupler and it fits just perfect, this is for an NB though so I am not sure if the OD is different.

Sold. Thanks guys.

Just ordered tube and bends from racing solutions for my IC piping. I wish they had thinner stuff, and I wish even more I could buy it locally, but everywhere I go is rape price wise.

Move south of the Mason-Dixon line

If only everything was so simple.

Sorry to threadjack Sam but I'm also facing some issues with the coupler installed on my car (it gets loose pretty easily and I face a leak). I was told at the shop that I needed to get an intake pipe reducer from 2.5" to 2.25".

Is everyone positively sure that the NA throttle body is 2.5"?

Thanks and, once again, sorry to threadjack Sam!

Braineack 04-29-2008 04:54 PM

omg, your shop sucks dude.

On the 1.6, it is not exactly 2.5", however a 2.5" silicone coupler is a nearly perfect fit.

Can't say about the 1.8 cars...

No shit and the worst thing is that I've got no option

Braineack could it be that my IC piping is 2.75"? I bought a used S5 Begi so if anyone has one I'd appreciate some confirmation.

Ill go measure mine today and post a pic.

I'm scared of both the measurement and the pic! :)

I don't think you have an S5 installed.

Thanks anyways Sam.

1.8L is also 2.5" OD IIRC. I have 2.25" pipes on the cold side and had to use a 2.25-2.5" transition for the TB.

Zabac 04-29-2008 06:16 PM

I have the 1.8 NA, and I have a 2.5" coupler there...only thing that sucks is that the other end of the intake piping is not connected to a turbo or intercooler
N/A blows

Thanks Arkmage and Dan. I assume I'll have to get a reduction coupling in my case.
