rattle can aluminum charge pipes?
Curious about your experience with spray painting charge pipes. Thinking about blasting my pipes with some sort of hi temp black tomorrow. Maybe a crinkle finish if I am feeling froggy.

Mine have lasted....did a metal flake silver....with all the oil spills they could use a touch up, but all in all it looked better than rust/dirt/flat black

did you use a standard paint--or go with some hi temp stuff?
I'd like to send my pipes out to be powdercoated, but since I'm probably going to re do my intercooler and intake situation soon enough, I'll hold out. Black pipes, and new couplers, and my engine bay will look bitchin'. Might even go with t-bolt clamps, not because I think I need them, but because they look cool. |
i used high temp metalic red on mine it looked candy when it was done i need to redo it though. after all the mods dents chips ive added etc. i would not ceramic it though you want it to transfer heat out. not store it. just my 2 cents GL man

I POR-15d mine. Flat grey for me, but they have a silver color as well.
|
I actually used the remaining wheel paint i had left over....high-temp ceramic on the valve cover.
|
I did mine in hammered finish gunmetal at one point. actually was pretty durable where it wasn't rubbing the hood.
|
I went to town on both sets of IC pipes today with some hi temp flat black. I'll get a pic later.
|
my friend did flat black krylon.

I painted the AFM too....
and please ingore the ugly wires by the brake booster. I put the EGT probe in, but didn't have time/energy to do anything else after that http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/1...ckedoutsc1.jpg |

I've had really good luck with Dupli-Color engine paint on IC pipes, I usually use satin black and I've done valve covers in red and silver. May not have a million colors but it's super forgiving, goes on nice and stays on. Also, my motorcycle tank is painted with it and it withstands gasoline if you don't let it sit forever, so oil and grease should be no problem. I also like the cast iron (that's what my tank is painted with) and cast aluminum for various other parts. It's good shit and it'll stand up to the heat of IC pipes no problem.
Here's some crap pics. Motorcycle tank in cast iron. Silver valve cover, black heat shield (yeah, the engine enamel stayed on the heatshield) and touched up stock IC/MAF pipes all in black. Red VC, cast aluminum intake manifold, touched up stock IC/MAF pipes. |
Cool, apparently I took another pic because this was on my cam too. You can see the black AFM here, as well as the wastegate can and I painted the filter housing too.

I used some of that crinkle spray paint from home depot on mine and its still there. Makes for a nice faux powder coat - a great way to bring up curb appeal of those aluminized charge pipes for sure. :naughty:
