Read any good books lately?
 

Well this is my first official posting other then the meet and greet thing. My question is, is there a "Turbo Book for Dummies" that you guys could recommend? Being that I'm an old dog and fully agree that I can't be taught any new tricks, I'd at least like to know enough on the subject to understand what you guys are talking about. I'm getting tired of just nodding like I know what the kids are saying about my engine when they're looking under my hood! You know my first car was a 55 chevy when I was 17 back in 1962. I've owned and built close to 200 cars in my life time and I'd be the first to admit when the foreign cars came onto the market I swore I'd never own anything with a plastic dash! Well times have changed and so has my attitude and love towards the newer cars. I'm wondering if my theory about, "If it blows it wasn't built right in the first place" still holds true.

My opinion of Corky's books is that they are a good starting point, and helpful if you are smart enough to see where they are contradicting themselves and notice where he's being sloppy. I actually stopped considering him a valuable information resource as a result of reading his books. There's also been a lot of technological and "best practices" type advancement in the industry, as well as some dramatic marketplace changes since they were written. The fundamentals are indeed well presented, but I wouldn't go so far as to say reading them is all you need, or that his books are even the best source of the information in them. Just easy to find.

ah pitcrew you seem a true gear head. Just do abit of reading and look at some of our pictures and charts and before long a b6 will be as familiar as a sbc 327 with mechanical fuel injection and a solid lifter cam. It's still a motor we just feed it in alil diferent way. :D

If you haven't read it, the romance of engines is quite good.

But I strongly recommend the art of racing in the rain.

I also ended up buying (and loving) "How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems" by Jeff Hartman.

i was gonna post a thread about books under general miata since im not looking for only turbo books, but this will do.

Anyone have any other suggestions for miata related books about performance, physics of how things work (like aero, grip, mechanical parts, etc).

need some stuff to read during work and up my knowledge

LOL, I just bought it at Borders yesterday. 40% off the HC, only $18. I can't read books off of a monitor. Gives me a migraine.

i dont read dude, come on, you know me better than that. i use mr. ipod. But yes I have maximum boost in digital format in a word doc.

car hacks and mods for dummies isn't bad actually, they go over alot of basic but good info. example they mention about roll bars\cages\style bars and reasons why not to do style bars, Its basic but good info and points to good ways to and what you should look out for.
