Rear mount turbo?

So I've been doing a little bit of research into "rear mounted turbos" and I haven't come across anything either here or on CR.net. And I was just a little curious as to what everyone else thinks about the idea.

(I'm kind of assuming since I haven't found anything on here yet. It's either not worth it. Or impractical for the miata)

But I figured it was something to look into, out of shier curiosity.

And this website, with some information on their rear mount turbo kits (none offered for the miata) but it seems they mainly cover the pros/cons of kits for v8 motors.

And no, I'm not asking about what supporting mods I need to slap a turbo on my car. I was able to find Braineacks DIY FAQ thread.

The rear mount turbo setup would be ideal because it adds moar weight to the back so you can get moar traction under boost. Kurt Rohmer (sp.) has a really nice rear mount setup on his rat-rod'd miata, check it out.

I like the whine of a downstream turbo. Plus I already have a RB 4-1 header, save me money. IMO the engine bay would look cleaner too.

rear mount turbos work very well, and sound freaking AMAZING!!!!

do it :D

Yup, I'll close it. Basically it's completely pointless. Only reason they exist is for cars with a very cramped engine bay, and to keep some of the heat put. We don't have that problem, so the laundry list of drawbacks aren't worth the heat issue, which would be the only benefit for us.

Thank you for asking though. If you were to actually argue for rear mounts, I'd be moving this to the BS section to let you be hung by your Moronic head. Luckily you were just curious.
