ok so heres the question! i keep hearing people say you can use different intake manifolds even read one about a 1.8L honda GS-R intake working it would just be backwards facing the firewall....

so heres my question is there another car wit the same exhaust ports as the 1.8 L miata engine? im looking into turbo manifolds and i didnt know if anything else would work i have a couple buddys around here with random turbo manifolds laying around some eclipse,some honda, some subaru...

so there it is are there any other exhaust manifolds from another car that will fit our 1.8L engines?

Why again would the B18C series intake manifold be facing the firewall mated to a BP??

Hmm.. Looks to me like they all face the passenger side of the car... and if you take the intake manifold off the back of the motor and turn it 90* CCW it'd face the front of the car...

Ok, I cleaned up this thread because I don't think the OP's question is really that bad of a question. I don't think we've ever discussed using an EXHAUST manifold from another car on ours. At least not recently. The only question I have for the OP is why? There's plenty of turbo manifolds already available for our cars and several members on this board that can make you whatever you want. It ain't broke so don't fix it.

If anyone mentions intake manifold again I'm going to cut you.

THANK YOU! OK, reason being like I was explaining my buddys have turbo'd civic,GS-R's,eclipse's so if I can weld on a new flange that I can make myself to one of their manifolds it saves me time and money, and I like seeing how other cars parts perform on cars they aren't made for. I may be a cheap bastard or just in general BROKE, but I like making my own parts, and learning how to do stuff rather than buying something from a company that has made 300,000 of the same parts; and everyone in the nation has them on their car...Sorry for the long explanation, but that is my reasoning.

Hey, I did not say I planned to make a header out of another one to fit our engines, but I did ask if there was one to fit. But, most likely I will be trying this before I go and buy one pre-fabbed.

Read some threads about how people have modified or built their own manifolds on this forum. Some nice ones have been created by people with very little experience.

Edit: Our BP 1.8 engines are also found in the Kia Spectra. I bet there are some really hot Spectra turbo manifolds out there for cheap.

Aside from the port spacing difference, if any, you may run into turbo to block, turbo to motor mount clearance problems with some of the honda manifolds. The shorty style for sure. We have more room forward, they have more room under.

Very true I was thinking more along the lines of a eclipse 2.0t manifold but the best part is if I get it for next to nothing and it doesn't work..no harm no fowl I just wasted a couple hours,right? I'm not in any way saying it will work just weighing my options for manifolds...

I know I have seen a guy on the GRM boards who used an upside down DSM mani on his Escort BP. I have my old one waiting for the day I finally get the damned car. I doubt I will use it, but then too my 16G/TiAL 38/2G Mani does spool really well and I flowed 38 LBs/Mn through it.

I will probably just learn from the 8 billion hours of experience on here and get an ABSURDFlow with EWG provision or smething along those lines, but hey, DSM manifolds are anywhere from 30-60 bucks a lot of the time. Whats to loose?

I know Ive seen this discussed before, and I myself have considered doing it.

Here are the issues I see:

1) The problem is that just like our tubular manifolds, the good ones cost a lot of money.
So b the time youve bought and modified one you are to the point you could have bought a miata manifold.

2) Very few "good" honda manifolds would fit.

3) The honda motors are like sewing machines compared to a BP. I see all sorts of thin walled, unbraced manifolds survive abuse on hondas that would very quickly crack on a miata. Im not sure why, but these engines just vibrate like crazy.

Well the best part is I have found a dsm manifold and dirt cheap like 10$ since he will never use it again. I just want to try some stuff before I go spending the money on a begi or some other manifold...

watch those first gens tend to crack pretty badly i've scrapped about 30 dsms in my life and only have seen one exhaust manifold that didn't have a crack in it.

it was on a 2g and I will be bracing it severely I had my cousins manifold for his honda crack so I tig welded that. Ill be tig welding a lot on it and bracing everything...

I don't know crap about fabbing and such, but I'd think you would start by grabbing a BP exhaust mani gasket and at least seeing if the port spacing matched up. I would think it a minor miracle if it did.

Given that you would probably be in for at very least a new flange and at least some new tubing, wouldn't it just be easier to fab the whole thing from scratch? I think you could even find some threads here by some who have done just that, they could give you some ideas on the ins and outs of things like turbo not hit block, and all that.

If you are going to that much work, just scratch build one. Flanges are $22 and $12 for head and turbo from Wiertech, weld els are $6.xx each from Ace Stainless. I think I had $67 in materials into mine.
