Default external gate housing on gt2560r?

My goal is 200-230hp with as little drama as possible. I realize EWG is probably overkill, but everyone always preaches "do it right the first time" so that's the type of setup I am planning, able to upgrade while keeping most of the same parts if I ever want more power.

t3 inlet, .48 a/r

I've not come across anyone using this, is it not worth it? I am looking at going EWG and considering my options. Immediate con is that I have never seen one of these used for sale. ($$$)

-How will this compare to the usual t25 .64 a/r in performance? (all I found was Turbine flow rating of .63 A/R T31 is comparable to T25 flanged .86 AR.)

-should I just find an internally gated version and pin the flapper shut instead?

-Can I put this housing on a previously gated turbo? (in my garage)

thanks in advance, please be gentle

is that part made for a 2560?

dont waste your money on another housing! just have the wastegate flap welded shut and get a mani for a EWG! DONE!

from what I understand, all other parts would remain identical.

i dont think it will work right! when you pull the turbine housing off you can see the shape of the turbine blades! if the inside of that T3 BS you want is to small you can **** **** up and if its too big all you will get is blow by and no spool!

if you want a reliable set up capable of close to 300 rwhp buy my stuff! https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t45406/

You can order a gt2560r with that housing on it brand new. If the inlet is larger and the blades the same, a/r will change. I think. But I dont know enough to know what the change will mean

another thing to note is your changing a T25 flanged turbo to a T3 which are completely different!

Supposedly Garrett T3 .48 A/R flow rating is comparable to T25 flanged .64, so...

shut flapper works just as well?

There's a big difference between 200-230whp... big difference. For 200, there's no reason at all for the 2560 or EWG. On a properly tuned 1.8, you should hit 200whp with a 2554r at 10psi or so. With an exhintake and adjustable camgears, maybe a little less. I've seen 99's hit 200whp at 8psi and spooling practically off idle with a 54. I don't think at that boost the 2560 has a significant torque advantage... and EWG is total overkill. You'll have no issues with boost management with internal gate... if it's really bugging you, have the internal gate ported a little bit.

For 230whp, you're probably into torque advantage territory for a 1.8 for a 2560, but still no need for external. You'll have no problem hitting 230whp on a 54r with a proper tune on even a beat 1.8.

I'm feelin' ya on the "do it right the first time" thing... but an external gate setup is going to cost in the 50% more money range for hardware, and might get you a few extra datums of precision... but for the money, get the exhintake and camgears instead or spring for a better manifold or have a hi-flow head built.

yeah I guess it make sense to go with the internal, because even if I do go External, I can keep my turbo and even most of my DP maybe, but not vice versa. Plus proven and cheaper.

SO NEW QUESTION: In a money is no object situation, which would you choose? All else equal

Yes this part is made for the 2560. I'd get it from ATP just to be sure. It's for people with an externally gated T3 manifold that want to use the smaller turbos.

Garrett GT2560R (aka GT28R) Ball Bearing Turbo : atpturbo.com

Does it make sense to use it? If you have a T3 externally gated manifold and want to run the 2560, sure. If you're starting from scratch you might as well keep the standard turbine and save the cost of the external wastegate. For your power levels you'll have no issues.

thats what i was wondering from the beginning! even though there is a housing that works, my logic points to save the money from it and put it to something more important!
