Rivet oil restrictor
Ok i searched and read all the articles about oil restrictors and a lot of them have a link I guess about an article Samnavy created about this issue but that link no longer works.
If someone has details as to what i do with the 1/8" rivet to make it an oil restrictor that would be great. The turbo is a china version of the 2870 ran great for the first couple months but now randomly at idle it will start smoking out the tail pipe but when I start driving it stops smoking and on my stock oil pressure gauge I am seeing 65psi+ of oil pressure around idle and sometimes almost 80 under heavy acceleration. Do I just get the pop rivet and stick it in the turbo as is or what? |
remove the stick.
drop the rivet head onto the fitting. crush the flat flange around the 45* taper of the fitting. install the feed line. |
and actually... his post is still there and his pictures still attached.

Thanks for bringing this up, I've never heard of this but seems like a perfect easy, cheap, effective solution.
|
I had to take a dremmel to my fitting and to the rivet(around the edges) and it fit just fine in my chinacharger.
|
I'd go with a real 1mm restrictor every day. I used on for a day or two but would not risk it again.
|
.035" is the number you want.
|
Thanks brain, for some reason the link in the other threads kept giving me a 404 not found error.
|
As for the size, do I need to run a .035 restrictor or what? The 1/8" rivet is .075 correct? Just want to make sure I get the right one without starving it of oil or blowing seals.
