They are huge, I personally wouldn't recommend them for a "normal" 1.6L motor.

cjernigan 10-19-2007 12:35 AM

Those aren't the turbo's you're looking for. Those are full TO4Bs which means they came off of a semi. The turbine housings are huge and are most likely an A/R of around 1.3, they also most likely have a divorced turbine housing.
Anyway, those are what you would consider a T4. Not the T3 you're looking for. You'd be better off buying a chinacharger T3/T4 hybrid than using one of them. They also don't have the 3 bolt outlet you speak of.

I guess you missed the whole "Truck Parts" and picture of a huge red semi. :)

Ok.. off to a good start...

They look scary all right..... if by 'scary' you mean 'my wallet is scared to know what those would cost to make work'. Turbos that even have the physical appearance like that are more then likely going to need some work.

Oh we'll be honest. They are crap. Judging by the 2 auctions you posted, i'd guess that you are looking at turbos base on the cheapest price you can find. Bad idea. Be willing to spend $400+ for a good turbo that you will not have to question. Or, do some research and learn more about sizing/cost/condition/rebuilding etc..., then you'll get a better idea of whats a bargain and whats a pile of junk. Those are piles of junk. You dont "NEED" anything, many different size turbos will work.... and if someone tells you different, kick them in the nuts (seriously). For a 1.6 and mild power goals, look into T25/T28 turbos where you will be less likely to oversize a turbo.

Zabac 10-19-2007 09:16 AM

what can i say that hasnt been said before?....hmmmm
they covered it all
but if you want cheap buy one of those china t3/t4 from ssautochrome, gay, but cheap and a good place to start...once you know what you are doing, then spend 600-900 on a real turbo and be done with it

Saml01 10-19-2007 09:36 AM

Why are you specifically looking for a turbo with the ford 3 bolt DP?

This would probably work well for you.

Cause i already have the BEGI mani, and DP. I was going for a lower power set up like Brains. I need a 60./48. t3 of an automatic thunderbird super coupe. It will bolt right up if i can find one. Its right below the super 60 he has, people say for the price i wont even feel the difference. I guess there are a couple of turbos i can use to see what i like. But yeah t25 wont fit.

They are supposedly fine for journal bearings, do not use them for ball bearings, bad news bears

eh, i decided to go with something i know i can trust when i dropped the $500 for my garrett t3/to4e. I had just heard/read to stay away from any no noame turbo lol.

There are soooo many options when it comes to t3's.... if you can find a nice SAAB 900 turbo, they have nice t3's... like the one posted above. And that one has a nice elbow that would make the fabrication of a DP pretty easy.

(funny thing about those auctions, i had actually been watching that first one for a few weeks before i got the one i have now. One benefit is it has the fittings already on it!)

Saml01 10-19-2007 04:37 PM

they max at about 220whp... 250whp if you push it and have a good sized intercooler or water injection.

Fallin Blade 10-19-2007 09:27 PM

I think there are a couple of other options, was it hard to find you T3 Arkmage? How will yours do? or is yours not installed yet?

Your right sorry, I ment the turbo coupe, like 83-85 the automatic has a 60./48. and the manuel has a 60./63.

miataspeed1point6 10-20-2007 12:53 AM

The guy who lives at the end of my street has an auto turbo coupe. I seriously don't know how it's still moving. The rear bumper is almost on the ground and the whole thing is surface rust with some touch up paint. No real paint left. I should steal the turbo off it for you just so I don't have to see that thing anymore.
