Shaft stuck (T25 rebuild)
!!Thanks to SamNavy for the excellent rebuild instructions!!
I got the compressor nut off after heating it up with a torch andpersuasion with vise grips. The shaft is supposed to pop out, with some effort to get one of the shaft rings thru its opening. I have been tappping the heck out of it and the shaft moves in and out a fraction in relation to its position in the hole the (is there a double entendre in there somewhere?). I can't seem to get the shaft to pop out. It don'twant to tap it much harder, thus damaging it. Any suggestions, or should I just continue this? |
once you pop the compressor wheel off it should push right out.
if it's old and siezed theres a few places it can get get hung up....the bearings and turbine seal. use a mallet and make sure not to kill it, try penetrating fluid. fwiw, ive dealt with three of these turbos (sr20)....none have ever been easy to work with. |
Thanks. I'll give it some P-Blaster and see if that helps.
**UPDATE** I have already ruined the first 2 threads on the shaft and it in not popping loose as it should. I am going to need to try and die the threads of cut off the first two threads wit a Dremel to get a new nut on, which at this point seems nearly impossible. Three hours on it now, and I've only managed to get the compressor wheel off. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!! |
This happened to me last week on a holset I was gonna rebuild. I ended up hitting it with a 10lb deadblow hammer and the turbine shaft bent.......still didn't come out. It is now in the trash and a different turbo is on the way here.

I rebuilt a turbo for tom.dow on this site.
i buggered the turbine housing (long story) and had to buy a second t25 to swap the turbine over. I sent him back both, but maybe you can make arranges with him to send down the one I bought... :dunno: |
Well, I've still got the shredded TD04, I wonder if the shaft is the same length?
**UPDATE** The TD04 shaft has a smaller circumference, so it is not exchangable. |
my 16g came apart rather easily once i realized how hard i could hit it,spray it down with some wd40 or something and let it sit a while then get back to it, it worked on most of my stuck stuff

It's been soaking for three days in P-Blaster. I got so pi$$ed with it that I just beat the sh!t out of it with a sledghammer just now. What a friggen waste of my time and money. I guess it's another T25 for me. :vash:
