Should I upgrade my fuel pump?
 

So, my fuel pump is dead. The question now is whether I should upgrade the original one when I'm going to change it anyway?

My setup is:
MS2 DIY PNP
High flow fuel rail
420cc RX8 injectors (yellow)
Stock fuel pressure regulator
homebrew T25 turbo setup

making just about 200rwhp on the dyno..

I got a good offer on a Deatschwerks DW200 fuel pump, but I'm not sure if I should choose this or just install another stock pump?

Im thinking that the upgraded pump might deliver too much fuel pressure to the injectors, and destroy their spray pattern or whatever?

Please help me on this one, I'm a bit confused.

You do not need an uprated pump at that power and with those injectors

Well the walbro 255 I got was cheaper than the OEM replacement that I had to buy from vatozone. So if it's cheaper then why not.

I forget, is the wally 255 ok on the stock FPR or do you need to upgrade the FPR? Either way the wally and install kit is probably cheaper from racetronix than any stock style pump from anywhere.

I used a TRE performance 255lph pump for a long time in my miata in bone stock form because my pump died and a buddy had it. All you really need is the pump and a sock for a 255 the connector is the same and you have to cut the feed tube on the hanger assembly and use a little piece of hose if you buy a wally or a tre or similar with an install kit for under $100 its an easy install and IMO good for growing into.

OP has an MSPNP so if the stock FPR is overloaded he should just need to adjust the tune. I thought it was only a problem on the stock ECU. Maybe I'll install my wally this weekend and find out.

No when the fpr is overloaded the pressure fluctuates, which is impossible to tune around.

On a side note, I've got a 255 wally on my stock FPR and it's not overloading it as far as I can tell. When I installed it the fueling was spot on and no re-tuning was required.

It would be most likely to overload the stock FPR at idle, right?

To the OP, I'd upgrade it for peace of mind. A dw200 should be a nice pump, and not all that loud either.

I know that I dont need it, but would there be any downsides by installing it?

No I dont need to, but as my stock pump is dead, and I can install a upgrade pump for less money, I just wanted to know if the upgraded pump would flow too much fuel and effect my setup in a bad way...

One downside might be you will need to retune the MS if you fit one

If you are worried about the 255 overwhelming the stock FPR, why not get the 190HP?

Its because I was offered an 255 to a VERY good price. If I want to install the 190HP or an stock pump I'll have to pay a lot more..

That's a good point. I got my 255 for free from a friend, but if i were buying a pump for my miata I probably would have just gone with the 190HP.

My stock fuel pump started getting flakey so I bought a 190HP because everyone said "ZOMG THE 255 WILL CAUSE YOUR FACTORY FPR TO IMPLODE INTO A BLACK HOLE AND YOU WILL BE SPAGHETTIFIED INTO INFINITY!" It seemed like a good idea at the time so I went with it. I NOW have a DW200 (255lph) in the garage waiting to be installed in place of the Wally 190HP.

Why? BECAUSE STREETCAR. That Walbro whine seriously gets on my nerves. It's like a year old, but :burncash: I'll probably sell it to someone who is willing to BECAUSE RACECAR more than me.
