Small 16g turbo

So I am about to put my turbo on, and i just noticed something. If I wanted my boost WG controlled, i would run a vacuum line from the WG nipple to a nipple off of the turbo, correct? Well I just noticed that my turbo does not have a nipple on the turbo, so does this mean i will have to purchase a boost controller to control boost that way?

I have tried searching, but Im not having much luck, only seeing stuff on the big 16g turbos.

any vacuum line will work

What do you mean by any Vacuum line will work?

Any place where you can get vacuum/boost. Drill a hole in your IC pipe after the compressor and put a barb fitting, tee off something on the IM, etc.

You don't need vac signal for a wastegate, only boost, so it does not need to come from the intake mani.

Drill and tap a hole in the compressor housing for a nipple near the outlet, or do the same in the intercooler pipe just past the comp housing as suggested above. I ran my big 16g this way. You can either go straight to the wg actuator from the new nipple, or through a ball/spring type boost controller on the way. On my Evo3 16g there is a blind drilled boss about an inch from the outlet that's perfect for a boost source, you may have the same thing on yours.

I think you jsut answered my question, so if i drill a hole in my intercooler piping, and plug it with a hose barb, and run a vacuum line from there to the wastegate, i will be able to control my boost through the wastegate actuator correct?

yes

If you have to ask this then maybe you need to do some more research dude. It is not that fucking complicated.

As stated, yes. This will give you wastegate pressure only. Just be sure the nipple is completely sealed, and won't pop out under pressure. Best way is to weld on a bung and thread the nipple in. Ghetto way is drill a slightly undersized hole and 'screw' in the nipple with some JB Weld to seal it.

Okay guys thanks, just making sure what i have read was correct, Ive never boosted a car before, Just owned a car that came boosted, So its a little different when you actually have to do everything your self. Also For the BOV, that needs to be teed in BEFORE the throttle botty, correct?

If you read this link, you'd understand why tapping a hole in the compressor housing or just downstream of it is not the best spot to do so. Do it after the intercooler.

srtwizzy 10-21-2010 11:47 PM

I know, no way in hell im tapping a hole in the compressor housing, i'm doing it after the intercooler like you said.

You need a boost and vacuum source for the BOV, so after the TB, usually from the intake manifold.

srtwizzy 10-22-2010 09:56 AM

Thats what i meant, I need to tee into one of the lines off of the intake manifold, i hear the back one is usually better? Any differences between using the 2?

Larimer 10-22-2010 07:48 PM

For the BOV I wouldn't tee into anything so you get a good vacuum source to make sure the valve operates properly and to prevent compressor surge. If you don't have cruise control I'd just use the nipple on the IM for it. Otherwise if you have to tee off one or the other, I'm not sure it would really matter.

srtwizzy 10-22-2010 11:17 PM

IM? sorry i'm not good with abbreviations.

Aricjm15 10-23-2010 02:35 AM

intake manifold.

srtwizzy 10-23-2010 04:55 PM

Im stupid haha
