Snapped a fastener
I twisted off the bolt that holds the v-band clamp on my turbo. I need to get a new one locally tomorrow but don't really know what to ask for. It's got a round head and a little bit of square shank at the top and what I need to know is whether or not the square part is necessary.
I'll try to get a good replacement, but if I can't, how well will a regular hex-head machine screw work? |
I think I know what you are talking about. The square shank is to keep the thing from spinning when you tighten/loosen the nut. The head of a regular hex bolt might be too big and hit the band. If it does, try an allen head bolt instead.

Carriage bolt was my first thought, but I fear that the head is too big. I also don't recall ever seeing carriage bolts in a 10mm. Doesn't mean they don't exist though.
