I think that theory has some basis in truth, but you'll still destroy the heater hoses eventually.

Take a cup and fill it with water, take a torch to the side of the cup. It won't burn. Kinda creepy actually.

I have experience with this. Even nice full silicone ones. I'd shield them if possible. DEI makes some nice heat shield sleeving that works well. Spendy though.

I bought the Begi turbo heat shield. Looks almost too pretty to put on
