I like the intercooler on the Renault Gordini shot.

Damn, I actually wanted to see other peoples solution for turbo braces as well. Then this went completely off the rails

To take back my Renault F1 hijacked thread... I was pacing around in the garage one day and looked at the 1.8l block... I dont know about some of you, but I found where I want to mount a brace. Off to the left of the hot-side motor mount is two unused threaded holes. So I started a project to mount the turbo from there. I also decided to mount the turbo by the drain flange.

Its my first idea that if it works, it will cost me around 20 bucks.

Materials:

1. 3ft 1/2"x1/2" CR steel square tubing- $6.75 from Lowe's
2. 150 pc. box of assorted metric 8.8 strength nuts and bolts- $10.25 from Autozone
3. cut-up angle bar from old bed frame off craigslist- $0 :giggle:
4. left over -12AN rubber coolant line- $0

Here are some pictures. I will have the full brace finished by tomorrow... hopefully. The plans are a rough draft.

yes, something Ive always wanted to do. For one, it eliminates the need for a BOV, butr in addition to that, it puts the compressor wheel in vacuum while the throttle is closed which helps keep the turbo spinning.
Kinda like when you put you hand (or w/e :giggle:) over the intake of a vacuum cleaner, and you hear the motor increase in RPM.

Unfortunately, it will also drop the compressor to the left of the surge line any time you back off the throttle. Could work for an on-off type of throttle scenario, but modulating it as most Miatas do could be very bad for turbo life if you don't have some really bitchin' ball bearings in your CHRA.
