Sr20 turbo specs!!
Not sure if this is all on miataturbo.net in one nice post so here we go:
Finally found some good info on OEM sr20det turbos all in one place. Its stuff i have sorda known from the past through owning a 240 with a sr swap, but here it is ... all organized: from 240atlanta.com the older turbos are all journal bearings, garett sells the newer ones for s13's that are ball bearings (gt2560r) the ball bearing is shown by the R in the name. garrett doesnt sell the old journal bearing turbos. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...R_466541_1.htm Redtop - Garrett gt2560 Journal bearings. Compressor: T-25, 60 trim 56mm BCI-1 compressor. Turbine: T-25, 62 trim 53.8mm 0.64 A/R turbine housing. Blacktop - Garrett gt2560 Compressor: T-25, 60 trim 56mm BCI-1 compressor. Turbine: T-25, 62 trim 53.8mm 0.64 A/R turbine housing. Center Section: Journal bearings The turbos are exactly the same except one is newer. s14 sr20det gt28/25 hybrid turbo gt25 compressor side and gt28 turbine side. Compressor: T-28, 60 trim 60 mm BCI-1 compressor in T-04B housing Turbine: T-25, 62 trim 53.8mm 0.64 A/R turbine housing. s15 sr20det gt2860rs Compressor: T-28, 60 trim 60 mm BCI-1 compressor in T-04B housing Turbine: Inconel turbine wheel. Cast divider wall between turbine discharge and wastegate. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...S_739548_1.htm rb26dett twins http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...R_707160_7.htm these are the twin turbos... notice the compressor map has a reduced airflow compared to the s14 version of this. these turbos are almost identical except for the turbine and compressor wheels. |

Something is wrong here. They call the S13 redtop and blacktop T25s gt2560's, but the 60 would signify a 60mm compressor wheel exducer diameter, so isn't that turbo actually a gt2556 because of the 56mm compressor? Or is there some wierd garrett naming thing going on there too?
|
Also, can you have a T25 frame size for the compressor housing? From garrett's site it seems like the Txx always refers to a turbine frame size, and the size of the compressor is just expressed by the second two numbers.
I'm not trying to nit pick, I'm just trying to get my head around this turbo naming stuff too. Also... they typoed :giggle: saying the S14 turbo has T28 turbine... then saying that it has a T25 turbine, they need to make up their minds. |
I'd take posted info with a grain of salt
|
Perhaps I posted this in the wrong section, therefore nobody saw it...but check this SR20 info out.
|
i would take some of the info with a grain of salt, yes. but whats important is the compressor trim and A/R for the different turbos. That info seems to be correct. As for the turbine stuff or the "garrett equivelent" ... who knows
i just thought it was better info than nothing and decided to share. |

forgot to post this in the previous response...check it out. |
Here's the info that I got from 240SX Forums, where I'm a moderator...

I just bought a Red Top from a guy on Nico :D

I am running the SR20 T25 from the S13 Black top. If left my turbine bolted to my DP and Mani, but simply swapped the compressor and CHRA with the T28 from the S14 Kouki...would this fit? What HP gain could I expect at the same boost level on a BP 1.8 over the T25?
|
^ Good question. I am also curious.

Hope this helps... |
The turbo efficiencies where rated in a Nissan 2.0 engine. I wonder what would happen to these efficiencies on a BP...

this is the only difference between the two turbos (most T28s are a T3 60 trim): http://boostedmiata.com/random/t3_vs_t25_wheel.jpg so look at this compressor map: http://boostedmiata.com/technical/t25_60trim_map.jpg and compare it with this one: http://www.turbocharged.com/catalog/...mages/Fig4.gif so a turbo that craps out at 25 lb/min (230BHP) vs one that craps out at 30 lb/min (275BHP).... |
sounds about right. getting 250rwhp on a sr20 with the stock turbo is a reach.

Great info. seems about right. what site are you on? i was big on Nicoclub.com and 240sxone before i got out of the scene
Not sure about the interchanging of the compressor housings of T25 and T28s... I could post a thread over at 240SX Forums and see if they know about this upgrade. But I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to interchange them. My actual suggestion would be to change the compressor housing and compressor wheel to the T28 which would essentially give you a cheap T28. But I will do a bit more research and let you know what I find. |
Posted a thread over at my home forum (240SX Forums) and will post the results of the thread when a good definitive answer arises...

^ That's what I was thinking... Just wanting to verify before giving out a false claim and causing unwanted spending on un-necessary parts.
However, using the CHRA from the S14 Kouki will give the benefit of being ball-bearing. Whereas the S13 and S14 Zenki do not... |
