Sr20det T25 turbo, it is ok to run without coolant?

Ive heard that a Turbo came off the factory cars which has oil and coolant line that we can only run the oil lines but get a turbo timer. is that true?
who has sr20det t25 and only run oil lines? thanks!

Yes, I ran the t25 on my SE-R without coolant for quite a while and there were no ill effects. I did let it idle for a minute or 2 after running it hard before shutting it down.

There really isn't any reason not to run the coolant though.

aside from adding another failure point to the system and cluttering up the bay with more hoses? Sure:)

Done right they wont fail and they're hardly noticeable ;)

The absolute easiest way to run coolant lines.

Use standard radiator hose and run off the nipples on the stock waterneck... CAKE! Buy enough hose for a couple sets and change them every 2 years when you flush your coolant system.

Thanks for the replies. it looked like only paNX2K&SE-R ran the t25 without coolant. also another question is
i will install sr20det t25 turbo on my 90 miata, will i be able to get enough fuel with a Begi or vortech FMU with 1.8L injectors. whats the mpg will be with 7psi and FMU? thanks!!

fuel mileage is going to depend on how many times you have the throttle open. A turbo can easily eat up a tank of gas if you're driving it like mad.

Personally, I wouldn't take an FMU that high unless you have a bunch of other things - intercooler, wideband o2, something to retard the timing... If you can't afford a megasquirt, try to pick up a used AEM f/ic.

The only reason I ran oil only is that I broke the hard water line that went from the block to the turbo on my DET when I was bending it to line up with the t25/bluebird manifold. The location was different than the GTi-R manifold/t28 I was running before. It was supposed to be temporary but I never got around to rectifying it and then I jumped ship to the Miata platform a year later. :)

I'd go with the setup on the ebay link above, its very similar to what SE-R people have been using for a long time when turboing a DE block and is extremely reliable. As Samnavy posted its sooooo easy on a Miata to tap into the lines for the feed and those lines are cheap.
