Starting turbo project, on a 1.8 90.

So here's the story: My silver 90 blew the engine, and my green 97 is too fat and undrivable.

I plan on swapping the 1.8 into the 90, then turboing only about 6-7lbs of boost out of it.

My questions are: SSautochrome has a manifold for $175 for a 1.8. I've read here that they are crap, but has anyone heard of them actually holding up?

Next is, how do I control boost?

Which turbo is better, and why, the t3/t4 or t25/t28? Is the t25/t28 what comes with the 1.6 GReddy?

What about fuel? I want to get away with just running an FPR and stock computer, is that possible, what FPR's are good?

Many more dumb questions to come.

it'll work, but they aren't great in the least.

if can't boost less than the wastegate spring. If you want to stick with that amount, then you don't need anythign but a vacuum line to the wastegate. Otherwise to raise it up a bit a $10-20 MBC will work fine.

Depends what the end goal is. GReddy uses a t04d-15g

For the amount of boost you want to run, yes that's fine. Look for used BEGi adjustable units. Even Vortech FMUs with a specifically tuned disc work fine.

we all have them. ;)

SSA thread: https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6909

I already read that thread, thanks though.

Where does the SS mani usually crack? Is it possible to weld over it to prevent that sort of cracking, or what about wrapping it in thermal wrap, since cracking is caused by parts shrinking too fast.

What are some of the advantages/disadvantages of a t3/t4 or a t25/t28?

What turbo is easier to find at a junkyard? What cars come with the listed turbo? Do WRX or EVO's come with one of those, and where is a good place for oil pickup?

Are SS turbos any good? Or is it a hit or miss type thing as well?

learn to read a compressor map. It makes picking a turbo much easier. Also, unless you spend $500 on a begi manifold, you'll pretty much have to run a t28.
