Default Looking for some EMS4 help

Hey all, this car is not my MX5, or even my XR2. This is my 1985 Mercedes 190E. It's a 2.3L 8V that's been converted to manual and has a TD04e turbo with AEM ems4 standalone and a 36-1crank VR/trigger wheel with Ford EDIS4 firing at 10*. My issue is I do not have a cam sensor.. I am trying to use the ems4 for fuel control only.. I am reading the crank sensor through the computer.. Never done this before.. I've never heard this car run either.. I have a fuel pressure riser and a 3 bar map.. Any other info you need?

Any AEM gurus out there please slap with some knowledge.

Thanks
-Brian

Any way you can sell that EMS4 and get something less terrible? Like an MS1 or atari2600?

Thanks for the replay, I'm interested in your Atari experience however this is the set up I have hooked up. I have only heard good things out of those familiar with the EMS4. I am a noob to it, looking for an AEM friendly person to assist as I work to get this AMG back on the road..

How should I go about posting a cal

I think if you zip it up it lets you attach it. This board is more MS central and lets MS file types be posted natively. The few times I've dealt with posting files from my pile of garbage ems4 it was a bit of a struggle. I'm about 2/3 on actually making cars run with an EMS4 installed, and the 3rd one runs now better than the other two with an MS2 in it. So that was really my real advice as probably the #3 EMS4 person on the board.

Cool leafy, if your willing to help it's much appreciated, When I got the car it came with the ems4 and full harness in a box.. If it's crap I will go with an MS setup... However I currently have it wired in and I want to give it a try.. Below is the current cal...

Please tell me what you see wrong or post a cal I could copy..

I dont think you have the teeth setting right. And I forget exactly how the EMS4 does it, I do remember its convoluted as **** though. I think you also need to turn cam falling edge off.

I made some adjustments. My "a tooth" count is off.. Says 7 when it's on the last tooth before the missing one.. Popping errors again.. Maybe my sensor is moving or has issues but it seemed to fire the plugs right... How can I sync this?

You should double check the 400 something page manual, the crank tooth control doesnt even look close to what one should look like.

I have been using the 279 page manual that's a free download off AEM' site, It is full of great info but does not have trouble shooting or different ways to set up a tooth table.. The samples are using wheels with over 50 teeth.. I also have 0 rpm at cranking

Thats how the AEM works. It only understands that amount of teeth and you have to tell it how many teeth each of the teeth on your wheel is worth in respect to whatever that number of teeth that AEM understands. Its a real convoluted thing and really annoy, but its pretty far down the list of reasons why the ems4 sucks.

My a-tooth count is correct however, I continue to receive timing errors.. What is the cause of that leafy?

Your injector phasing table is 0-4-8-12, which would indicate a 16-tooth wheel, but your fuel teeth is set to 12.

Here are screen shots of my last cal that also recieved a good a-tooth count but the sync error reset would count off and set sync and timing errors.. Should I turn sync error to zero since I have no input other than the VR? Also my injector table was set 0-4-8-12/ 0-3-6-9 both with errors..

What's next?

Thanks
-Brian

I've come across some info about ems4 having issues with signal disruption from crank sensors.. Is that a route to try, VR sensor filter?
