Hey guys/gals.

Im new to the forum. So if i have the wrong section for this I apologies. I have a 92 mazda b2200 and I am wanting to swap a 1.8 Miata engine/ trans into it, then turbo it. But this is where I am hitting a roadblock. I cant find or figure out which engines I can or cannot use in my truck. My currently daily is a 2000 protege with a 1.8 and a 5 speed. Clutch is toasted so im parking it. Basically long of the short here is im wondering if the motor in my protege would be a good fit or what the best setup would be to handle boost. Also what ECU would work well and not hurt my wallet horribly. This is a project I am not dailying the b2200. Thanks in advance guys/gals

Look kid, if you can't do the simple act of googling the most abundantly asked questions, then don't try an engine conversion.

for one I aint no kid. For 2 i have plenty of swaps there is just a ton of collusion to what motors i can or cant use. no need to be an asshole.

Depends on what your idea of breaking the bank is. Lets assume that you are turbo smart, good at fabricating parts, and good at finding deals. I still get a rough calculation of about 4k to finish this project. Add 2k for every one of those things that you aren't good at.

An intrepid fellow could easily build motor mounts for either one. The Protege engine may not have the forged crankshaft of the Miata. I'd check into that. The cheapest ECU to run one of our engines is a MegaSquirt kit from DIY Autotune for around $300. You have to solder components and flash the info onto the board yourself. The easy button is an assembled unit for $400-1000 depending upon features and new vs. used. MegaSquirt is the most commonly used ECU for turbocharging the Miata engine.

You may find it easier to use a complete engine and trans assembly from a Miata rather than converting FWD components, but that's certainly debatable.

Deezums can be cranky sometimes. But so can I. I hope to see some pics of your project and it's development. Progress pictures are always good. We tend to be DIY guys here mostly, so we appreciate that kind of thing.
