Suggested IC pipe size for BEGi-S kit
Hey all, I've got myself in a mental jam here... I've got the BEGi S on my '99 Automatic miata and would like to do in IC install this weekend. I went on the "cheap" for now and got a small IC from FM back when they had a sale on the "shiny IC" for $99.00.
So I suppose the issue I'm having is in picking the correct IC tube size for my build. The BEGi pipes on the kit are mostly 2" OD with a flare going into the TB. The Flyin Miata IC has 2.25" OD inlet / outlet. My initial thought was just to go with 2.25" tubing all around and just reduce @ the points where I will re-use some of the BEGi-S kit. However, I dunno if this will be a good time to go up to another size and just reduce @ the smallest points as needed. (i.e. Use 3" tubes and then reduce down as needed.) Anyhow, I know that this has been discussed to the point where it should be automatic knowledge... but I really could not find a good answer based on the BEGi S kit. Sorta application specific in a way. Since I'm a touch out of my element... your help is totally helpful! Thanks and cheers, Prospero |
I'd use 2" on the hot side and either 2.25 or 2.5 on the cold side, with reducer couplers as appropriate.

well since the IC outlet is 2.25" he'd need a single 2.25->2.5 transition either way. :jerkit:

Hmm, this really is getting good! Dumb question tho... why smaller on the hot side and larger on the cool side?
Not that I'm bitchin tho... but never did one like this before on any of my cars; but they also had stupid-big turbos installed on 'em too. Maybe this has something to do with it? Just taking a shot in the dark tho... Thanks, Prospero |

The TB inlet is 2.5", and most of the common turbo outlets seem to be in the 2" to 2.25" range. My setup (with a TD04H-15G turbo) uses a 2.5" I/C, and the sizes go as follows: 2" (compressor) -> several 2" pipes and bends -> 2" to 2.25" coupler -> one 2.25" pipe -> 2.25" to 2.5" coupler -> 2.5" silicone elbow into I/C -> 2.5" silicone elbow out of I/C -> several 2.5" bends and pipes into TB. |

2" pipes are easy to sneak around a/c and p/s
|
a/c and p/s are for women
|
And Tauruses are for Grandmas. You point is?

You have a point. My 67 year old Dad has a Taurus SHO and thinks it's hot shit....so Taurus's with three pedals are for (soon to be) Grandpas.
...Granted it does have the Yamaha V8 in it. |

I have 2.25" pipes, they're fine. 2.25-2.5" straight couplers aren't super common, i need two for my IC right now. 2" would be a tiny bit easier to sneak past A/C & PS like Ben said but it shouldn't make much of a difference.

You might have me there bryantaylor, either way, it's still a Taurus.
