t-bolt clamps = sex

To the 50 dudes who hav PM'd me over the last year asking me if they can get away with using regular worm clamps, just like mine:
I've changed my mind.
Throw away the worms and get some t-bolt clamps. They are 10x better than worm clamps. Actually, it's hard to know when to stop tightening, before you start crusing your pipes. :eek5:

Braineack 09-10-2007 02:48 PM

I have a large investment of t-clamps under my hood. only use worms for the intake side now. so much better.

cjernigan 09-10-2007 02:49 PM

Heck yeah they are nice. It would be nice to use them on things like coolant hoses and the like as well. They look and work so damn good.

Zabac 09-10-2007 02:59 PM

even though im NA, i do agree, i have used both and the worm kept sliding off the intake at the bend, the t-bolt clamps the shit out of it...very happy, well worth the money...and then some

OK, I'm not getting that carried away, but I was able to score 8 from SamNavy and am ordering 15 more.

Splitime 09-10-2007 03:07 PM

Try to find trucker supply shops... you can get them for much cheaper than typical routes.

cjernigan 09-10-2007 03:08 PM

You're not getting carried away but you're ordering 15 more. 15 is enough for my entire system including my the coolant lines. That is if i was to get that carried away.

y8s 09-10-2007 03:26 PM

carried away would be replacing those zipties behind the drivers side headlight with T-bolt clamps.

Ben 09-10-2007 03:30 PM

damn dude, good eye. i am pretty sure those are factory zip-ties though. i've kept the aftermarket zip ties to a minimum.

kotomile 09-10-2007 03:43 PM

Looks nice, WOT gave me a few T-bolt clamps, I like 'em a lot but the inlet on the Greddy is so short I was having some trouble keeping the intake tube on.

Why did I think you had done a coolant reroute? I thought it was necessary for 12+ psi?

iWeasel410 09-10-2007 10:54 PM

Wiggins clamps are better...if you can afford them :)

nester 09-10-2007 10:55 PM

Never needed a t-bolt clamp.. never had a single coupler blow off on my car.

$75 for a clamp. No thanks.

Ben 09-10-2007 11:33 PM

dude, that was for a 1/2"
a 2 1/2" is $177 :jerkit:

y8s 09-10-2007 11:49 PM

does burns sell zip ties?

i bet they look nice. and hold wires at 300 mph.

cjernigan 09-10-2007 11:52 PM

Pretty sure they use those on the space shuttle.

Savington 09-11-2007 03:40 AM

Your tax dollars at work.

My IC to TB piping is so fucked up (90deg bend cut in half to create a ghetto 45, coupled to a half-kinked 90) I don't think it would seal at all without t-bolts.

nester 09-11-2007 09:49 AM

This is where 2.5" to 2.0" 90* Transition Bend Couplers become your friends!

Ben 09-11-2007 12:38 PM

Nester, I've had it happen twice now. The first time it was 100% my fault--I had to remove a section of charge pipe to make easy access to something else, and when I put everything back together, I tightened down one clamp but forgot to do the other. Whoops. The pipe blew out of the un-coupled coupler the first time mani pressure went over atmo. This was when I was on the stock ecu, so the car stalled.

The second time was the second time I drove the car after installing the bigger intercooler. This time must have also been installer error, but I swear that we double checked all the clamps, and hit them with all with wrenches/sockets twice. I was only a couple miles from home when I heard the pop. I had never heard that noise before, but immediately knew what it was. This time I was on MS, so I was able to drive back home without incident.

How do you know when to stop tightening the t-bolt clamp? It never really adds any resistance to the bolt... and it will tighten until it crushes the pipe without much warning.

Harv 09-11-2007 07:01 PM

I went and got t-bolt clamps and replaced all the worm clamps when I did my initial setup. Still haven't taken pics.
