T-ing off the oil sender HELP

as you can see from all the questions, i am having a few problems along the way wiith my install.

i got the oil lines from avo and they use the method of t-ing off the oil sender. all good and fine, but how the hell do i get to the thing to remove it. it's under the intake manifold and there just doesn't seem to be any clear path to get a spanner or anything in there. i'm tried from under the car as well, but can't get to it.

fuck it. t-ing off the oil sender is just too hard, and less than optimal anyway.

i'll just get a new fitting and use the oem feed port on the block. that just makes way more sense. hopefully i can find something tomorrow.

Good call on using the port on the block. The threads are M10-1.5 down there.

I got to my sending unit from the bottom with a wrench.

Since you already have the lines, here's a how-to:

I got to mine from under/the side after taking the wheel off.

Excellent way of doing it. Also makes it easier to get at the clutch slave to bleed the cylinder as well.

sending unit is 1-3/16" i believe.

I used a 24mm deep well socket and a ratchet, I don't remember it being very difficult though?

UofACATS 04-23-2007 12:30 AM

I remember it being quite easy.

....But all cars are not the same

fatty 04-23-2007 01:03 AM

thanks for all the responses guys.

i didn't have the right socket anyway, so i was stuck until the stores opened today, whichever way i chose to go. so i went and got a fitting made up for the oil feed on the hot side of the engine. much easier that way. all fitted now and looks good.

UofACATS 04-23-2007 01:27 AM

Nice. Probably the best way to run it.

nester 04-23-2007 11:12 AM

a 24mm deepwell socket with a 1/2" drive ratchet will get to the sender perfect, on a NB anyway.

SamS 04-23-2007 11:55 AM

That's what I used too. For some reason I think it had to be a 12pt too.

nester 04-23-2007 03:01 PM

i think mine is 12 pt too.. i know i bought it to do wheel bearings on my samurai, and it happened to fit the oil sender on the miata.. ;)

Braineack 04-23-2007 03:07 PM

1-1/8" would not fit, nor 27mm on my '93.... 1-3/16" sendor-socket fits like a glove....
