T25 for MSM worthwhile?

So, I've been thinking about finally upgrading turbos on my MSM.

I currently am on stock turbo, and bolt on's (o2 housing, downpipe, cat delete etc etc fmic RX8 injectors blah blah).

It feels like it's running out of steam up top.

So my question, would a T25/T28 give me the same spool characteristics (or close to it), and give me a bit more breathing room up top?

Yes, a GT2560 would make a great street turbo and make all your wildest dreams come true.

I've always thought about doing a DD miata gt2560 in the future with artech allthethings, vband gt2560 log manifold :bigtu:

But IMO if you do a t28 I'd go for allofit and do a gtx 2863 or 67 with a Fab9 manifold + dp or EFR baller status with that sexy trackspeed engineering manifold :burncash:

It is most definitely a worthy upgrade. Blew the stock turbo last year and upgraded to an ARTech axial manifold with 3" exhaust with a 2650. This was after minimal tuning.

/\ See, I'm not sure that plot would convince me, since I did the same on the stocker

But if you were to push it harder, then yes.
I would probably go straight to EFR though.

That is impressive for a stock MSM turbo, even if it spools 300rpm later than my 2650. I am going to be even more impressed if that was on a VTCS manifold.

The most recent stock turbo log I could find (that doesn't require me to dig through hundreds of logs looking for a pull and assuming it was done on flat ground). I seem to remember making more power than this old log indicates but whatever.

There is no doubt about how awesome an EFR setup is, but a 2650 can be had significantly cheaper and is a worthy upgrade over stock. Until the engine gets built, I have zero desire to push it further. I'll trade power for reliability all day and every day.

Truth be told, I don't remember exactly why I went 2650 over EFR. Only reasons I can think of are cost. Had the stock IHI held out for another year I would probably be part of the TSE group buy, and spending half the cost of Xidas more.

Yep, untouched VTCS mani :)

And dude, I'm not at all dogging you for getting a 2560. I love that turbo.

My only real point in that statement was that when you're paying money for a bunch of parts to run a different turbo, the price difference isn't as drastic (relatively)

Sorry, I'm too busy cleaning the engine bay with tears shed over all of the recent love for TSE's soon to be released kit.

I don't believe it. Or maybe I just need to take my car to a competent tuner. Said I was going to do that last spring. Maybe next year.

I bet cost wise the TSE kit comes in only slightly more than FM or BEGI and that will make it one hell of a bargain. We have so many options for well sorted turbo kits and people are actually running them again. Starting to feel like the miataturbo from before everyone went NA.
:likecat:

After going for a nice drive through the country yesterday and going topless to work today, I'm thinking 2 vehicles aren't enough. Trading the Frontier for an older Silverado/F150 for towing duty and DDing a turbo'd pre-OBD2 car sounds like a lot of fun.

Bundle a GT2560R with an EWG+EWG manifold, associated downpipe bits, recirculated bypass valve, and EBC valve, and then compare to an EFR on cost. Who can run a 2560R on the stock IWG at 6psi with a full 3" exhaust?

You can compare GT2560Rs to EFR6258s on dyno charts all day long, but one drive in each car will change your mind forever. On the road, there is no comparison.

The voices from the static on the tv say run EFR or go home ...

This is what I'm hearing as well too.
