when taking seals out/putting new ones in, be careful not to nick anything in the process. Pat do you send your turbos out to be rebuilt and balanced?

I've never had one apart or rebuilt one, nor have I ever paid anyone to work on one before. The miata was the first car I've ever turbocharged, and I just bought a new GT3271 for 300 second hand. I would feel comfortable taking apart my turbo to change the seals and reassemble, assuming I put the factory wheels back and I mark everything so it goes back exactly the way it was originally. It will still not be "perfect", but very very close and probably good enough. But if I changed wheels, or changed the main shaft, I'd send it to be balanced.

i didnt balance mine, but i did mark the orientation of the turbine/compressor wheel and re-installed it the same way. There were also very few balancing machine marks on the wheel. The other t25 i took apart was machined like crazy from the factory. it must have been way off balance before machining.

I'm actually seriously considering buying a rebuilt complete CHRA now. I'm getting pissed off.

well worse case scenario is it gives out a while down the road. I doubt there will be any somewhat immediate impacts. I have friends who swap in and out turbo pieces like its a Mr. Potatohead toy.

Yeah I'm starting to reconsider, maybe I'll run it anyway. I just dont want it to give out at all, mainly because you never know where you'll be and what you're doing when it does. The rest of the assembly went smoothly, aside from that washer/oil deflector/whatever. Now I need to figure out where to get a new one, and how to install it properly.

Wayne_curr I'll let you know what I want to do. I just need to sleep on it.
