T3 flanged greddy 1.6L manifold??

Has anyone done it? The td04h 15g I have has a bit of play and I would like to either rebuild it before installing or just step up to a t3 by changing the flange off the greddy manifold to a t3 or by just getting the t25 to t3 adapter as seen in ebay. If anyone has done it what spec turbo did you use and which method?

Wow, looks like I may be the first... Pending I get funds to rebuild a turbo I got from Rappadan..

Any reason the t3 turbo's are cheaper than the td04's? I always felt ball bearing turbos would be choice...

If you're going to replace the turbo, why not replace the manifold too? I could see modifying a manifold for a different flange if the manifold was a good one, but the Greddy cast manifold is far from ideal.

why? I spun that wheel, nothing wrong with it....

Wheel spins fine but has excessive play. When you wiggle the shaft you are only a few thousands of an inch away from the side casing. If not rebuilt the fins will eventually hit the side walls and have to be replaced as well. Just trying to prevent any major damage.
Can anyone tell me the true alotable tolerance before a rebuild is truely necessary? I strongly feel its at that point if not past... Rappadan is a good guy and has been in touch seems like he may be willing to partially credit me the cost of the standard rebuild kit which is just like $69 so I hope all goes well.

put a bit of effort (in multiple angles) on it and rotate it slowly on that point..if you can ever make any contact it's not good and needs new bearings....

Bryan858 07-21-2008 03:05 PM

Hmm, in terms of the greddy mani, I thought it was a pretty simple effective design. Not truely concerned with the size of the piping becuase you normaly want to keep it small to achieve faster spool then go as big as you can at the downpipe back. I also have a spare greddy mani that I was keeping if ever I have any problems...

If I switch to another one the cast t3 mani on ebay looks like a good deal and seems to have good results any thoughts and replies would be great as I am looking to get everything together in next couple months..

Thanks Brain, Thats actually what I did and at some pts it looks like its touching but I can still stick a shim in, a lil thinner than paper. So wouldn't it be best to take care of it now before it actually touches?

Braineack 07-21-2008 03:17 PM

might as well. I just knew it was working well when he pulled it.

Make sure there is room between the turbo and your hood if you use an adapter plate.

Bryan858 07-22-2008 01:59 AM

Thats what I was looking into. I may actually just weld a t3 flange over the t25, machine the original hole to be the same size and drill / tap new holes for the bolts... Should only add the size of the larger turbo and a half inch for the flange tops.. If I do it I'll keep everyone posted.. For right now I'm looking into just rebuiling the turbo so I can get the car boosted.

So, the thickness of the adapter flange, the extra room for the larger turbo.. downpipe will be fun.

Seriously, if you can make it work then good on you, but it just isn't worth the hassle. Rebuild the Greddy, drive on it awhile, and when you upgrade replace the manifold with a better design.

Sounds like the route I'll be going..
