t3/t04e Hybrid in t3 compressor housing

Has any one ever run a t3/t04e 46 trim in a machined out t3 compressor housing? I recently upgraded to a 3" exhaust and now I can't make boost in 1rst or 2nd (~2psi max) and once I hit 4k I get compressor surge. I'm running stage 1 wheel in a .48 a/r housing. I'm thinking of going to a .63 housing but I think my real problem is the machined out t3 compressor housing. Any ideas?

I make 10 psi by 3600rpm in 4th gear in the current setup, wet journal bearing.

Most people get a new backplate and housing that fits the wheel, simply bolt it on.

With that said I've run both a t04e 60 trim and a t04b-S wheel on my .48 Stage I T3 turbine without any issues, just the extra lag. No reason you shouldn't make boost in 1st or 2nd. If you make 10psi at 3600 in 4th, then you should be making 10psi by at least 4.2K in 2nd...traction loss? clutch slip?

When I had the Borla exhaust on I could make boost in any gear. Its not traction loss, I continue to increase in speed and rpm, just a an NA rate until the compressor begins to surge. Nor is it the clutch, ACT Extreme with ~7000 miles on it. I've held 10 psi in 4th through 7k. I agree that my current setup is unusual but to avoid packaging issues I went with my current setup, if I have to change to a full size t04e compressor housing I will, just looking to to see if anyone had any experience with a similar setup.

jwatts; would you care to share some info on the Mustang 65mm throttlebody?

What did you have to do to make it work?

Any issues?

Thanks

Hardest part is adapting the cable. 5.0 mustang throttle bodies use IACs with the same flange as mazda, there are no coolant lines to plumb just one fitting for the PCV valve. I'm using a BBK which has a much weaker spring than the stock miata throttle body, feels like no resistance the first time out.

Come to think of it, I can only get to the surge point at WOT. From my data logs I've noticed that the TBS% never goes above 50% even at 10psi at 7k.
